Re: Sudden onset of engine clacking/knocking noise while driving uphill

Hard to diagnose via YouTube. Any chance a lifter is bad? Is the noise once per rev or every other?

Re: Weird Idling Issues, Worsening Over Time

I replaced my TPS on Saturday on the '98. Two drives so far and there is a huge difference. Engine runs a lot smoother and no more random 1700 RPM idle. The most alarming thing it used to do was...

Re: Engine swap 02 SC2 - non air pump head?

My '99 came from Mass and it had the air pump and precat.

Re: Seeking a transmission recommendation.

What I like about the larger pin in the Hunt4Steve procedure is that it is snug both in the differential housing and in the shaft for the spider gears. Stock, I think it was loose in one or the...

Re: A/C Refrigerent Line Pressure Switch

I'd probably do the unthinkable. It it's leaking anyway, just let it finish.

Re: Rear Main Seal Leak

If you have oil on the clutch, it would slip. Would feel like driving on ice where it is hard to get going and you constantly have to get off the gas to stop wheel spin - except here it is clutch...

Re: 2001 Saturn sl2, maintenance questions and more.

My Saturns have the aluminum intake, so we'll have to wait for a G3 owner to come along and comment. If I had a G3 with tape on the manifold, I think I'd be at the junkyard looking for a...

Re: Weird Idling Issues, Worsening Over Time

I'd try replacing the TPS and the IAC valve. I've had those issues on my '99 as well. Replaced them during the rebuild and no more funky idle.

Re: Rear Main Seal Leak

Bill's point is excellent. Has the cover been pulled off to verify a rear main seal leak?

Re: Rear Main Seal Leak

That eBay link is for a carrier and seal. You really just need the seal, unless you destroy the carrier.

Re: Rear Main Seal Leak

I'm pretty sure the rear main seal carrier goes on with RTV, just like the timing cover and oil pan.

Re: Possible coolant leak?

My vote is the OldNuc advise. They used the Bars leaks tablets at the factory, if you believe the knowledge he imparted.

Using both seems like a bad idea to me. Go with the minimum - two tablets...

I would not re-torque them. What's that stuff OldNuc recommended for coolant leaks? Bars leak or something?

The important thing with the head installation is keeping the combustion gasses in the...

Re: 99 SL2 Transmission wont go into gear

Second vote for this check. One cable makes the rod go in and out, one cable twists it.

If you can shift it engine off, the clutch is not releasing. Could be failed hydraulics, throwout...
