Re: Radiator fan will not come on - AC works, ECTS good, Fan motor works

One lead always goes in the "COM" jack. In most cases the other lead goes in the "V*mA" jack, with * meaning the "omega" symbol for ohms. The only time the upper jack ("10ADC") is used is when the...

Re: Radiator fan will not come on - AC works, ECTS good, Fan motor works

You are using the meter wrong. One probe lead always goes in the "COM" jack.

Re: Can I swap a sl1 engine into a sl2 car?

Try this place for the PCM. I know they can program to the engine/trans combo, regardless of VIN, but I'm not sure if they can also mate the PCM to the BCM if the engine/trans combo is different...

Re: Can I swap a sl1 engine into a sl2 car?

I would loop a rope/strap around each end of the sway-bar, right outboard of the brackets that mount the bar to the frame. Make it like a bridle and hook the hoist to the center of the bridle; just...

Re: 96 SL1 wet passenger floor

Have you been checking the engine coolant level? Try driving it a few times without using the A/C, that will eliminate the "condensation" scenario.

Re: No cold air

Just a different opinion. OldNuc was not correct all the time; neither am I (or anybody else). You gotta use common sense and decide for yourself sometimes.

Re: No cold air

There really is no standard color-code for O-rings, you will just have to trust the vendor. I would lube any kind of seal, except one for oxygen-service.

Re: 2001 SL1 stalls slowing at a light, restarts again later

Although this doesn't sound like a fuel-pressure problem, I gotta say... checking FP without using a gauge is of little value.

Re: Right rear wheel-bearing replacement

Be cautious using long screws to "jack" the hub/bearing out of the knuckle. The loads will be in a different direction than normal, and it is possible to bend the threaded ears on the knuckle if you...

Re: Slamming Back After Input Shaft Nut And VB Repair

Were all three VBs from the same vendor? Which vendor, and did you verify that they had both the Pressure-Regulator and Booster "Sonnax upgrades"?

Were air-checks of the clutches and servo done...

Re: Can I swap a sl1 engine into a sl2 car?

Certainly the PCMs must be of the same type (DOHC or SOHC) as the engine, but it isn't clear to me that the trans-to-PCM mating is crucial. The 3rd and fourth ratios are different, so I'm sure some...

Re: Can I swap a sl1 engine into a sl2 car?

That is a bit misleading. The OP does not have to do a trans swap. The SL1 engine could be mated up to the "new" car's auto trans with no problems or additional parts needed.

In fact, no matter...

Re: Can I swap a sl1 engine into a sl2 car?

There are lots of good possibilities here, but I would first determine what is wrong with the suspension on the existing car. Fixing that is likely to be the least expensive route.

If you do go...

Re: Dorman shifter cable bushing

Please keep us advised as to the success of the (epoxied) Dorman bushing. I, too, thought the Dorman looked kind of flimsy (and expensive), so made my own bushing. However, for folks not having...

Re: 97 SL 1 Compressor Leaks

I can't answer your specific question, about alternate compressor P/Ns, but suggest your clean the outside of the compressor with solvent and check again with the UV. I suspect that leakage is from...

Re: Throttle body 1995 vs 1997 SL1

Pretty sure the '95 and '97 TBs are identical. I would try the already-clean one.

Re: 1999 SOCH auto transmission problems

There are many inexpensive (< $50) was to get OBD2 live-data via a laptop/phone/tablet. The key search phrase is "ELM327".

Even without any kind of live-data, you should be able to detect gross...

Re: 1999 SOCH auto transmission problems

OK, I watched (and listened) all the way through the "manual switching" video; that one only.

Can I assume you have no power to either the LP or TCC solenoids? The hard shifting is due to the LP...

Re: Engine rebuild and trans kits

New individual parts, much less kits, for either the manual or auto trans seem to be getting rare. If you can't make the trans "brand-new", will that change the scope of engine work?

Re: All to common coolant leak at the intake manifold

Hi-temp RTV? The head (and manifold) should never get over 250F; any gasket-sealer will handle that. Silicone-based RTVs, even the cheapest, are good up into the 400-500F range

Re: 1999 SOCH auto transmission problems

Agreed, those recent videos do show very useful info. Are the data fields the same in all the videos, i.e. (top to bottom) rpm/turbine speed/vehicle speed/turbine slip? Although useful, the videos...

Re: All to common coolant leak at the intake manifold

I would try building that area back up with JB Weld (steel-filled epoxy). Clean it real good with acetone before applying the JB.

Re: No cold air

PAGs can be either water-soluble or water insoluble. The water-soluble is definitely not compatible with mineral, so mineral must not be used on the O-rings with that PAG type. I don't know if your...

Re: A/C Refrigerent Line Pressure Switch

No, they won't do much to seal the high-side. "Better than nothing", of course, but I made some brass caps for mine.

Be wary, too, that the male thread on the plastic cap doesn't protrude in far...
