Re: Soft brake pedal, went to to floor, leak under driver's seat

Two Saturns, one Buick, a few other friend's cars, and only $27. Amazon says I bought it 5 years ago now.

But, if you read the ad, it does say '99.

Re: 3rd gen to 2nd gen headlights

No idea on the swap. When I redo my headlights, I start with 220 wet sandpaper. Then go to 800 and finish sanding with 2000 or something crazy like that. Final pass is the foam pad and polishing...

Re: Soft brake pedal, went to to floor, leak under driver's seat

It pretty clearly says it creates an SAE double flare. My recommendation is the OTC tool I linked. My experience runs counter to fetch's.

Edit: your practice flares look fine. Did you try and bolt...

Re: Soft brake pedal, went to to floor, leak under driver's seat

Yes to both. That was a practice flare on the old line. My OTC tool has done every flare on 2 S Series and a Buick, plus my son has done some lines on friend's cars with it.

Re: Soft brake pedal, went to to floor, leak under driver's seat

I've honestly never seen a specification for the bubble flare. The 37 is aviation.

Re: 1997 Saturn SW2 (HELP)

One of my lock buttons failed and it was drawing 0.346 amps all the time. That killed the battery. I'm thinking it was less than 0.05A after I removed the stuck switch. Half an amp is too much.

Re: Soft brake pedal, went to to floor, leak under driver's seat

Definitely. What dies do you have? If none then it's a single flare tool.

Re: Soft brake pedal, went to to floor, leak under driver's seat

Why don't you put the nuts on and flare them before you get under the car? Just chuck some blue tape over the end to keep dirt out.

Re: Soft brake pedal, went to to floor, leak under driver's seat

The final forming is done by the nut and fitting. Try bolting one of your practice parts to an old hose and then see how it looks.

Edit: they look fine.

Re: Soft brake pedal, went to to floor, leak under driver's seat

I think you are right. I don't think my bubble flare kit has a countersink. My old double flare set and my aircraft AN flare set do have a countersink.

Edit: make a few on scrap for practice. You...

Re: Soft brake pedal, went to to floor, leak under driver's seat

Raybestos used to be top quality. One of the new Raybestos hoses I bought for the '99 was faulty. I bought a replacement from a local store. It's all chinesieum now sadly.

Generally you should...

Re: Soft brake pedal, went to to floor, leak under driver's seat

It's a crapshoot. I would avoid Raybestos, based on a bad one I got. Hope manufacturing comes back onshore someday.

Welcome new member. Tell us about your S Series Saturn!

Jerry sold his Saturn and left the forum 3 years ago. WD40 is awesome for cleaning gunky stuff. It's my go-to solvent.

Re: Soft brake pedal, went to to floor, leak under driver's seat

Sounds like you are in good shape. You can cut the old line or just pull it out. It will bend enough to escape the rear suspension.

If it was me, I'd replace both lines while you are doing the...

Not much to go wrong under there. I'd just bolt it back together with the new gasket and go.

Re: Soft brake pedal, went to to floor, leak under driver's seat

I did that once. Then I found I had to unbend it to install, then rebend. Just make the length good and route/bend it as required.
