Re: Gas tank removal on 2007 Ion. Do I first need to remove the exhaust system?

I replaced the fuel tank on my 2007 shortly after I bought it. You don't need to completely remove the exhaust. You don't even need to mess with any of the connections. Pulling the rubber hangers off...

Re: Brake dust shield unobotanium

The GM parts catalog currently indicates otherwise. It is possible that at one time they were in fact different but have since been superceded by the current part numbers mentioned earlier. This...

Re: Battery replacement 2003 Saturn Ion

In a previous post you said the 78 battery has both top and side terminals. This is not true. A group 78 battery only has side terminals. There are dual terminal batteries made to fit many (but not...

Re: Brake dust shield unobotanium

The same dust shields were used on all 2002-2007 Saturn Vue, 2005-2006 Chevy Equinox and 2006 Pontiac Torrent models. I agree that a junk yard would be a good bet. Even those in the rust belt may...

Re: Brake dust shield unobotanium

The front left shield is GM p/n 15229295, and appears to be discontinued. The front right shield is p/n 15229296, and is still available.

The brake shields are rusting to bits on our 2007 Chevy...

Re: amplifier fuse blows immediately.

The amp is dead and will need to be replaced or bypassed. You need part number 22667531 which was only used in the 2002-2003 Vue and has been discontinued for a few years. An amp from a newer model...

Re: Battery replacement 2003 Saturn Ion

A 75 is needed for 2003-2005 models. The battery tray and vent was changed to accommodate a 78 battery in 2006-2007 models. Make sure you install the vent on the new battery.

Re: XM Rcvr Integral to OEM Radio or separate?

The XM tuner (GM part number 20940528) is a separate module. The exact same tuner module is used in numerous GM applications from 2006-2016. On the 2008-2010 Vue, it appears to be located near the...

Re: Blower doesn’t work on high

You may find my thread from long ago useful. A 2000 will have the same electrical system as your 2001 model. FWIW I had this car for about 3 more years after this post and didn't have the problem...

Re: 04 Vue 2.2 / Frt Wheel Drive / 5-speed CV intermediate shaft

Your part number is wrong, but it doesn't matter because the part's been discontinued for over 10 years. The original part number was 9186570 which was replaced by 22732742 at some point before being...

Re: 07 Vue V6 plenum / manifold gasket search

The GM part number is 12581885, but has been discontinued. The Honda equivalent part number appears to be 17144-RCA-A01 (https://www.hondapartsnow.com/genuine/honda~gasket~17144-rca-a01.html) which...

Re: '05 Vue Radio - power but no sound

This is a signature symptom of a short in one of the speaker circuits. One of the speaker circuits is probably shorted and throwing the radio's internal amp into protect mode. You need to find the...

Re: 07 ION what to watch out for

I doubt that gasket will fix it. DTC P0411 is usually caused by an issue related to the secondary AIR injection pump, check valve, or related plumbing. I've linked a corresponding parts diagram here...

Re: 07 ION what to watch out for

Make sure the A/C and radiator cooling fan work. The AC compressor and cooling fan motors commonly fail. Listen for clunks from the front end (lower control arm bushings) and rear end (rear axle...

Re: Which Transmission Fluid? 2005 AWD VUE

You need Honda DW1 fluid (p/n 08200-9008). Your transmission is a traditional 5-speed automatic.

Re: 2006 Vue Drivers Window Won't Work

Unfortunately, in this case you can't swap switches to check them. The left side and right side window switches near the shifter are two switches in one. The left front & left rear switches are one...

2003-2004 Ion Sedans (and a few late build 2004 Ion Quad Coupes) have the Aisin AF23 5-speed automatic transmission (RPO code M43). It's not any less serviceable than other transmissions, aside from...

Re: 2006 Vue Drivers Window Won't Work

Most likely causes are bad window motor or broken wires in driver's door jamb.

Re: Spark plugs, spark plugs, spark plugs...

If it still runs good at that mileage, the plugs have more than likely been replaced at some point. The factory-installed platinum plugs would have some major gap erosion with 193k miles on them....

Re: Spark plugs, spark plugs, spark plugs...

Your owners manual says p/n 12569190 should be used. That part number has since been replaced by 12599232 which is AC Delco p/n 41-941 (single platinum). At that time, platinum plugs were installed...

Re: New Timken wheel bearings/hubs have play?

You would be correct. I've never let a bad wheel bearing go long enough to worry about it catastrophically failing.

As I eluded to before, this can't work on the separate hub & bearing design the...

Re: New Timken wheel bearings/hubs have play?

No, it doesn't. It can't control bearing tightness because all the clamping force is being applied to the hub. No clamping force whatsoever is applied to the bearing, nor does there need to be. If...

Re: New Timken wheel bearings/hubs have play?

I'd say the ball joint is the most likely culprit. A loose axle nut wouldn't cause any movement of the wheel/tire. All the axle nut does is prevent the splined axle shaft from sliding back & forth...

I just checked availability of the two part numbers I gave you. 96817602 (cover) has been discontinued, but 96673826 is still available.
