Free Saturn Transmission

Hi folks,

I sold my 93 SL2 and 94 SL a couple of years ago but still have a few parts hanging around.
When I converted the SL2 from Automatic to Manual transmission in 2012 I pulled out the...

Re: SL2 brain farts

Well, I made it home okay tonight but avoided the highway because of an accident.
I took off both battery terminals and the main body tie point near the A/C pressure switch, cleaned them all up with...

SL2 brain farts

This is the best description that I could come up with for my 93 SL2s performance this morning.
Background - car has about 105k miles on it. I converted it to a manual tranny about 18 months ago....

Re: Intermittent Battery?

Thank you for your thoughts gentlemen.
Here's some additional info.
Although the car is 21 years old it only has 110k miles and is in really good shape.
Two years ago I did an Auto to Manual...

Intermittent Battery?

My 93 Saturn SL2 has been working great with it's 6-7 year-old DieHard battery.
Last week, while driving home from work, I noticed that every time I hit the brakes the headlights would momentarily...

Re: Strut replacement

Thanks for all the good replies.
That's a good point about the stabilizer bar bushings. I guess if I'm trying to get the best handling back I should replace them too.
I read the thread about the...

Strut replacement

My 93 SL2 recently ticked over 100k miles. Although it drives and handles respectably it makes clunking noises from one or more corners of the car on certain road conditions. I'm pretty sure it is...

Re: Tire interference normal?

Sorry it took so long to reply to this. That Christmas holiday thing, you know?

The tire was damaged when some a*hole next to me changed into my lane and forced me up onto the sidewalk with a...

Re: Tire interference normal?

The bushings and sway bar look okay. What is supposed to limit the steering travel?

Tire interference normal?

When I bought this 93 SL2 a year ago it had a fairly new set of P195/60R15 tires on it. These are the factory original size. When I damaged the right front tire I decided to swap my P175/70R14s from...

Re: New T stat or not?

One thing I did not see mentioned here is that mileage will suffer a bit when the engine is not up to temp simply because it is not as efficient at lower temps. The thermostat is set to keep the temp...

Re: Thermostat Reliability?

I stopped there on the way home to check it out. You are absolutely right. It's a DURALAST thermostat and is only warranted 1 year. So, I walked out.

However, The Adv Auto / Stant unit I have in...

Re: Thermostat Reliability?

I was hoping for a flurry of replies relating a similar experience but I guess not.

I see the Stant T-stat is still available from Adv Auto for $12.99 but Rock Auto only lists an ACDelco unit for...

Re: Thermostat Reliability?

No, the temperature hasn't really changed much here yet. It's still in the 50's and 60's. I first noticed the problem a month ago when it was still in the 70's.

Actually, I changed the ECTS...

Thermostat Reliability?

When I bought my 93 SL2 last October the first thing I did was replace the thermostat since the car would never really warm up. A new Stant unit from Advance auto did the trick to get it to warm up...

Re: No air Conditioning, on a budget..

If there is no cold air at all, then the compressor almost certainly wont be turning. There has to be enough refrigerant in the system to satisfy the pressure switch for it to turn on. If there is...

Re: Clutch Hydraulics Analysis

As you probably did, I twisted the plastic ring off with a pair of vice grips. Surprisingly, it did not break.
I then removed the retaining ring (seen on the rod) by pushing it in then pulling it...

Re: Clutch Hydraulics Analysis

Perhaps I just wasn't patient enough. I pried and heated until the plastic was bubbling with no luck. But I was trying to get back to watching women's beach volleyball. :)

Clutch Hydraulics Analysis

I and many others have had issues with fork travel, release point and bleeding of the clutch so I wanted to get to the bottom of this.

I sacrificed the factory hydraulics from my retired 94SL in ...

Re: New SL1 owner - how do I make this car last forever?

Nobody ever seems to mention a look at the EGR valve when talking about high idle problems.
But, it has the potential to cause that if it is leaking or not closing properly. I'd visit it, the vacuum...

Re: Clutch woes

I don't know how to test that as I can't be in both places at once!

I've got a photo of the fork before installation but it's too large to add here. Since I've only got the one fork I can't tell...

Clutch woes

If a brand new clutch kit and hydraulics give proper "wire test" travel of over 1/2" what other things will cause the clutch to release right at the floor in a 93 SL2?

Re: New SL1 owner - how do I make this car last forever?

Look directly under the brake master cylinder on the left rear corner of the transmission. It's RED and flips up to pull it out.

Re: How To: Clutch Hydraulic system with pics

This is a great how-to and I wish I had found it before having done this myself.
I do wish I had removed the brake master for access, as with one hand I was unable to get enough torque on the new...
