Re: The last Saturn Astra owner.

Hmmm..don't know, how do the measurements on their site match up to the stock radiator?

One thing about Summit, their return policy has never been an issue for me.

Saw another Astra today...

Red XE, with temp tags, no less. Someone must have recently purchased it.

I honestly can't remember the last time I've seen one, but it must be at least five years ago.

Re: Fuel Pump Service Port Mod

Please post it if you do. There are certain design aspects of cars which I simply don't understand, and this arrangement with the fuel pump has to be one of them.

:dizzy:

Wow! Not for the faint of heart.

Very meticulous work.

Re: Floormats?

I purchased my '08 with 1,800 miles and replaced the stock ones with the WeatherTech liners.

If I still have them, I'll be happy to let them go if you're interested.

Re: Team Dynamic Wheels

Looks like that site is no longer working. What kinds of wheels were these?

Re: Lost only key. Can I get one cut from VIN?

Wow, that wasn't cheap, but you didn't have much choice, unfortunately. :hmm:

Now that you have one, perhaps seeing if a second one might be cheaper to make from the new one? I recall getting one...

Re: No crank, no start

Hopefully it's not the crank sensor, that's a bear to replace unless you remove the axle shaft.

Re: Glove Box Door

Found a photo of the 'after' spring I replaced mine with, purchased from the local hardware store which has one of those drawer type sections with miscellaneous parts.

Hopefully this will help...

Re: Chmsl always on

I've never encountered this issue, but it would seem more like a switch problem than something in the fusebox.

As mentioned, both the switch and a voltmeter are cheap, there's even a couple of...

Re: Astra Tuning (wip)

Boy, that looks great! Would have nice to get a dyno baseline in advance, but it sounds like the car wasn't running well enough anyway.

Re: What car would you buy after Astra?

Yes, and it's tough to beat an automatic. especially the dual clutch Tremec unit the C8 uses.

Still...

Nice piece! What was the final cost with shipping?

Well, good luck. Be sure to post up some pics when installed, it will no doubt look sweet!

Re: Exhaust manifold/Upstream cat replacement

Was that one of the UK designs above? They look darn good.

We still have emissions here, so I didn't want to deal with the CEL issue which I've encountered before with a freer flowing exhaust, so...

Re: What car would you buy after Astra?

You still find them if you look. We bought a new Camaro for my wife which has a six speed. Several of my other cars are either 5 or 6 speeds.

Was considering a new Corvette but paddle shifter...

Re: Exhaust manifold/Upstream cat replacement

Yep, no rust at all. Even the exhaust connection nuts to the flex pipe came right off.

If they were bolts, I would have definitely used new, but I think you can get away with reusing these, even...

Re: Exhaust manifold/Upstream cat replacement

No problem. Studs emanating from the engine block, although I would typically use new on something like this, the nuts appeared in good shape so I reused them.

Before photo below, also a good...

Re: Is Saturn Astra Worth Buying?

Parts are obtainable, but they often have to be ordered.

Reliability for me after 11 years of ownership has been good, except for the transmission, which required some work.

Re: Exhaust manifold/Upstream cat replacement

Gary,

It's actually under the catalytic converter link:

https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/saturn,2008,astra,1.8l+l4,1442052,exhaust+&+emission,catalytic+converter,5808

I purchased the AP...

Re: Exhaust manifold/Upstream cat replacement

Nope, flex pipe was fine, and the nuts even came off with minimal effort. As stated, no need for removing anything besides the electric fan, heat shield, and the manifold/cat setup itself.

Here's...

Re: Exhaust manifold/Upstream cat replacement

Pro,

Those are both bad azz looking designs! Pair it up with a custom exhaust and that would be a sweet combo.

I ordered an AP unit one from RockAuto which should be here tomorrow, so I'll post...

Re: Cutting access port for fuel pump. Yes? No?

No, not yet, just checking out some options. There is a pretty broad range on price for these, from less than $200 to over $600 for the Magnaflow units.

Re: What car would you buy after Astra?

What it is would have to have a true manual transmission, but those are getting harder to come by. Maybe a VW Alltrack or similar.
