Re: Strange P0300 occurrence

When I had a bad ICM on a '93 SL2 it'd run fine for 1ft-10 miles, then the same cylinder would die. Thought it was coil packs, figured out which one was dying and would just swap it out until I...

Re: Jumper cables on a 2002 sl2 Saturn battery.... stupid question?

Some jumper cables have tangs like those built into them for GM batteries. probably cheaper now for those adapters but if you need new jumper cables in the future and still have a GM battery look for...

Re: specifics on compression testing, P0301

The "Service(Wrench)" light is for non Emissions related things, like burned out indicator bulbs.

Reading what it has for a code requires at least a Tech II level tool, if not a Tech II...

Re: Should I save a 91 SC?

'91-'92 SC were "SC" because they only had the DOHC engine option (YAY! lol).

'91-'93 axles and front hubs are only different from '94+ if the car didn't come with ABS.

Biggest issue will be...

Re: Rear bumper lettering cleanup

Anything inserted into the lettering is added after the car left the factory, either by the dealership (doubtful) or a PO (very likely).

According to one of the "S-Series Gods" (lol, he'd probably...

Re: Hit deer, driver side mirror broke off, wire harness torn off

Looks like it'll be faster to get it off a parts car, should be the same '96-'02. Or Shove them into the mirror side as onlinebiker suggests.

You'll probably give me the same look the Autozone guy...

Re: specifics on compression testing, P0301

Start with a fully charged battery for each test, otherwise the results are invalid due to slow engine speed. Also need the throttle wide open, either a weight on the pedal or locking pliers/clamp at...

Re: Air injection emissions system

Less is documented about modifying anything on SOHC engine's beyond putting in the DOHC engine. I'm not sure if the air injection info from the DOHC's applies to the SOHC as well, with the DOHC's '99...

Re: Mismatched ACD Control Arms

Pretty sure you have to buy the right product line from ACD to get OEM quality parts, otherwise it's the same Moog/cheap parts you get from everyone else except in a ACD box & price.

Re: Re Mfg Caliper alert

Eric O (South Main Auto) has an older video on rebuilding calipers. Had to buy 2 right sides to get parts to rebuild a left side as the left wasn't available for whatever oddball car he was working...

Re: Where to find rear wheel knuckle?

Wait a tic...the threads are on the caliper brackets that you should be able to get with the caliper. They're not on the knuckle, it's just smooth eyelets that they didn't always put on the knuckles....

Re: Where to find rear wheel knuckle?

Rockauto sent me the wrong lines as well, for the parking brake. When I asked about sending them back for a refund they stated "my ordering ability is not their issue" and told me to get stuffed. Did...

Re: Engine grounds

Either that ground was commonly removed on '93-'97's or it's a '98-'02 thing. I don't think I saw it in person until I got a '01 and I had a TON of '93-'97's back before they all rusted out across my...

Re: Sluggish Shifter

It's worth replacing the ATF in it as well. No filter, just a drain plug on the bottom, a dipstick on the top and 2.5qts in the middle.

Dex/Merc only. Maybe "fancy" fluid if it's a proper...

Re: S-Series Ground effects kit available on Facebook

Should bolt up to '97-'02 SC1/SC2, though the odd reverse lights in the bumper thing was only '00-'02 so it's likely meant for 3rd gens.

Re: Brake problem

Pulling the ABS fuse means the ABS light stays on and the brakes work properly.

ABS does a noisy self test (louder in 1st gens, probably quieter in 3rd) as soon as the car first hits 5mph, forward...

Re: Po336

AllDataDIY's info on P0336 says it's either wiring or EMI...not a sensor.
The S-Series puts the CKP in a dumb place, right next to not only the alternator (a major EMI source) but also the big...

Re: Dashcam Power Setup

Before going to far into reusing the stock wiring, look up the F5 fuse box issue.

Far better to use a key-switched source to activate a relay and put the device's true power load on a new wire to...

Re: Keeping an SL2 alive

Kinda a stupid idea IMO but you drop the engine cradle on the driver side and yank the trans over into the new space enough to get tools in on the clutch and flywheel bolts.

I live where they...

Re: Po336

I'd guess that both the new EGR and the install was faulty. A bad install can lead to it becoming loose and creating a vacuum leak while a faulty electronic part of the EGR could cause voltage issues...

Re: Starter solenoid threaded electrical connector bolt

It's like the GM (side post) battery, you over tighten the terminal and you're buying a new one.

I've never seen the solenoid sold separately from the starter.

I believe this is the only brand...

Re: Error code 26 fix

Yes. I don't remember exactly where behind the mapbox but it's there. The antenna has 6-12in pigtail then goes to GM's adapter wire that's 12-18in long then goes to the radio.

Re: Error code 26 fix

Unless GM did something funky with '91s, the line attached to the antenna is the standard aftermarket style then goes to a 18in adapter line to the mini-thing GM use's on all stock radio's of the...

Re: Wanting information on sohc to dohc swap.

Spend the winter to do a Saturday job? lol

If you need the CEL off you'll have to source another PCM, otherwise enjoy the utter lack of a rev limiter with the auto pcm.

You have all the parts...
