Re: PSA: 2018-2019 Timken Bearings Now Made in China

Agreed, the clues were there, I just missed them. Still, it is a more sophisticated type of spam (becoming more common now) that reads fairly well. Many "legit" posts here don't read as well as...

Re: PSA: 2018-2019 Timken Bearings Now Made in China

Sorry, I didn't realize it was spam; thought is was an honest opinion. I did not click on the link... would have probably got a clue from whatever site that would take me to.

Re: PSA: 2018-2019 Timken Bearings Now Made in China

I agree, it is not where a part is made that matters, but the standards that the final vendor (brander) insists on. The older of us can remember when everything made in Japan was "Jap crap"; now it...

Re: Fabricate replacement metal steering lines on steering rack?

Are you sure the leak is in the tubing, and not the fitting or port in the cylinder? It is extremely rare for a hard line like that to fail from anything other than rust.

Re: Very stiff shifter (5speed Manual)

OK, I understand now. I have not heard before of that hinge binding, but maybe somebody else here is more familiar with that shift assembly. My recollection is that the lever/hinge is pretty...

Re: Very stiff shifter (5speed Manual)

The 5-speed (manual) trans has two cables, which one is it???

I think your are saying the cable end will not "roll" (rock left-to-right) on the lever ball; so the cable has to twist. Is that...

Re: Very stiff shifter (5speed Manual)

Which cable, of the two there, are you talking about? By "shaft", do you mean a ball-stud on the shift lever?

Yeah, there is a a plastic bushing, connecting one of those cables to the "hinged"...

Re: 2002 SC2 serpentine belt too tight?

Oh, I see the OP is another one of us dummies that can't change a serp belt in under 5 minutes... welcome to the club!

Do you still have the old belt to compare length to? Have any pulleys been...

Re: P0733 2002 sl2

When I bought my '97 Chevy van I got an all-inclusive 10 yr/100k mile warranty for $980. The deal was that I would get that $980 back at the end (which I did) if no claims were made. So, it cost me...

Re: 2001 SC2 power window issue

Does an ohmmeter confirm that the switch still doesn't make connection when it is operated? Post a picture of what the switch looks like as disassembled for cleaning, so we can inspect the condition...

Re: 2001 SC2 power window issue

Are you sure it is an electrical problem, and not jamming of the mechanism?

Re: A/C Clutch vs Compressor

The refrigerant pressure should be approximately equal to its temperature in degrees F, when the compressor is not running. You can check at either the high or low port, they will read the same when...

Re: batt post and jumpstarting

Has somebody modified/replaced the battery cables? The stock side-terminals are easy to clip onto. Maybe post a picture of the terminals and you charger/jump-start clips.

As far as jump-starting...

Re: 1999 Saturn SW-2 Ignition Module???

It could be the wiring to the ICM. R & R the harness connectors to the ICM and try again. Just "wiping" those connector contacts may heal it. No Joy? Then back-probe the drive signals to the two...

Re: Diagnosing A/C (again)

The problem you describe is only one type that I have found with the service ports. Most couplers on gauge hoses have a shut-off valve in the couplers, for "capping off" the hose ends and preventing...

Re: Diagnosing A/C (again)

There is no need to turn the compressor to fill the system. There will be enough transfer between the high and low side through the expansion valve/orifice and through compressor vane seals to...

Re: P0420 and smoke

No, the S2 does not control AFR at all. It is there only to verify the cat is working OK. When you get that P0420 either the S2 sensor/circuit is bad, or the cat is bad.

Live-data can be had for...

Re: P0420 and smoke

No, the P0420 is probably not from the S1 or fuel trims. Could be a bad S2, though.

What color smoke, white grey, or black?

Use live-data to check out the O2 sensors and fuel trims, why guess?...

Re: Diagnosing A/C (again)

I gotta ask... have you given in and used a UV light during your "looking" for leaks?

Re: Diagnosing A/C (again)

Try the UV light anyway, looking for leaks. There is probably some dye left over from original charge, as well as external dye marks from previous leaks that could give some clues.

This being a...

Re: Radiator Fan Linked to A/C?

Did you buy that Pontiac brand-new, from the dealer? I think that wiring had been modified, no manufacturer would design/build engine cooling like that.

Re: Radiator Fan Linked to A/C?

The radiator fan should come on when either the engine temp is hot enough (about 210F) or the A/C is selected to be on (at any temp).

I forget what year your car is, but the fan will also come on...
