Re: 1999 fails smog test for first time no clues as to why

There is a possibility the intake gasket might be bad. Spray some carb cleaner by the #1 intake port where it meets the head and see what happens.

Re: Sl1 trans shift trouble after rebuild

Line pressure solenoids on the later years of the S-series were kind of problematic. That resistance reading of 2.1 ohms is enough to make a difference in shifting. I bet changing that fixes it.

Re: P0733 2002 sl2

The later years of the S-series had a few issues with the main line pressure solenoid as well. Usually it would make the transaxle shift hard. If you don't see any issues with fuses it would be worth...

Re: LF Humming Noise 07 Vue

It could be the right front. The Vue's tend to eat wheel bearings.

Re: Saturn jerks

Get the exhaust checked for excessive back pressure. Converter may be plugged or partially plugged.

Re: Is 2001 SL1 chip reprogramming possible?

If you have a hesitation then try checking some things over first. Plugs or plug wires have any issues, wide gap, high resistance or open plug wire? Sticky EGR valve? Possible exhaust restriction?...

Re: 2004 Saturn Ion 2.2 constant p0442 code

After my post above I see you say they did do smoke tests, sorry about that. Maybe a small leak out the gas tank seal where the fuel pump seals?

Re: 2004 Saturn Ion 2.2 constant p0442 code

Did any of those repair shops do a smoke test?

Re: Death wobble at 40 mph and up

Take your front brake calipers off, see if you can push the piston in. I have seen this on an S-series before when the caliper stuck. Are the calipers original to the car do you know?

Re: Power loss under load at speed. 0401 code after new EGR.

My bet is on the converter being plugged or there could be a chunk of the platinum broke inside of it bouncing around and intermittently getting stuck causing excessive back pressure. With 300k...

Re: crack on engine block just below valve cover gasket

It appears to be the cylinder head leaking. I have seen a few of the dohc heads crack there. You can try epoxy if you want, but I would replace the head for better long term results. Try cleaning...

Re: '03 L200 tranni surge issue...

This is just a thought to throw out to you. I have seen before when the catalytic converter starts to plug and can make the transaxle shift weird like that. Usually it's worse under moderate to heavy...

Re: 04 Saturn Vue MT speed dependent hum- wheel bearing done

It's most likely the one wheel bearing you have not replaced. The fact you said the noise changes when loaded then unloaded speaks volumes as to it being a wheel bearing. You have probably noticed,...

Re: 1997 SW2 P0336 misfire with details

Back in the day, another dealer who was working on a 96 SL1 brought it to us after they couldn't figure it out. They had put a used PCM in the car and cylinders 2 and 3 were about flat dead when...

Re: Cabin lights and headlights flickering/diming over 2k rpm

Check your belt tensioner, it may be getting weak or it may be stuck, either way the belt could be loose causing it to slip.

Re: New ignition key cylinder and housing -- now '03 Vue won't start

30 minute relearn is what it's called. That's what the do it yourselfers are relegated to because they can't do the 10 minute one without the software.

Re: Should I get my valves adjusted

It's actually recommended at 100k, so yes it would be worth it. It would be a good time to change the plugs and make sure no oil leaks are present from the camshaft covers.

Re: 4 Codes and bad smells where to go from here

If you go to a muffler shop be sure to have them check for back pressure in the exhaust. Does the car have any power loss issues?

Re: 3800mile 100% windtunnel '96 SL2

That's a neat story. Those Zexel compressors were very dependable. I don't think I ever changed one of those on an S-series, unless the number of ones I changed were so low I don't remember, LOL.

Re: '99 SW1 Still having trouble starting/warming up. Here's what I've tried

Cleaning your throttle body out would be a great idea, at 215,000 miles if it's never been cleaned I guarantee it's caked up with carbon. That could be part of your stall out issue too.

Re: 2001 SL1 Coolant Leaking onto Starter?

It may be the intake manifold gasket, there is a coolant passage that goes through it.

Re: Air pumps

The twin cam motor with California emissions got it in 1999. I believe the sohc engine got it starting in the year 2000 with CA emissions package.

Re: Surging and very high compression

Just out of curiosity, have you tried removing the front o2 sensor or checked for too much back pressure in the exhaust. I have not read all ten pages so forgive me if it's already been checked.
