Re: 1999 SOCH auto transmission problems

The PS works fine on DEX3. I don't know if "PS fluid" is as good as DEX3, so I would not routinely use PS in a trans.

Re: 1999 SOCH auto transmission problems

Were you able to slide the trans bell-housing all the way tight against the engine using only your hands to push? If you had to pry at all, or use the trans-to-engine screws to pull the trans up to...

Re: 99' SL2 Starter Solenoid Power Problem

That (white) switch in the picture doesn't look like an ignition switch to me; more like the "multifunction" switch.

Re: AC Compressor Used vs. Reman or New

Well, I certainly had similar troubles; and it was intermittent, so tough to track down. Sometimes the gauge set would work fine to fill, other times not...

My problem turned out to be poor...

Re: Troubleshooting a/c problems-- pressure difference but no cooling

That is all interesting info about the pressure switches, but my understanding is that the compressor is turning fine; the switch info is of no use here. Or am I wrong, OP, is the compressor not...

Re: 1993 sc2

"...but it's kind of cool to have a newer OEM pump on this old girl."

I'm confused, and will start with the above: Are you saying the present pump is a different design than the old one? Or,...

Re: AC Compressor Used vs. Reman or New

So, you are using a vacuum pump to evacuate before charging?

What do you mean about "both ways"? You should only charge through the low-side.

Are you using a cheap gauge set, like from Harbor...

Re: Troubleshooting a/c problems-- pressure difference but no cooling

"What isn't mentioned is whether or not the correct amount of r134a is in the system."

Are we in agreement that the OP needs to evacuate and then refill with a known amount of refrigerant, before...

Re: Troubleshooting a/c problems-- pressure difference but no cooling

Yes, the compressor runs all the time, and the expansion valve does not change. Cooling is varied by throttling the inlet to the compressor, a rotating port-plate inside the compressor. Some...

Re: Troubleshooting a/c problems-- pressure difference but no cooling

Did you evacuate the system and re-fill with specified amount of refrigerant? Pressure readings are meaningless unless the charge is known to be correct or the system is known to be fully functional.

Re: AC Compressor Used vs. Reman or New

I just read a bit about the ICE, it sounds like it is definitely an "additive" and should left in, along with the regular PAG oil.

Re: No crank, no start, definitely electrical related please help

There is no separate ground for the starter motor, it grounds through the engine block. So, begin by describing in more detail what wire/cable you tightened at the starter.

Next, are you using a...

Re: Spacer?

I never worry about priming the pump, they are self-priming. Yes, it will take a second or two to build up oil pressure if the pump and passages are completely dry, but that really won't hurt...

Re: 1999 SOCH auto transmission problems

Again, I did not view the video; not enough time this morning (no sound on this computer). However, what you describe is pretty conclusive... the 3rd gear clutch is sick. Yeah, time for a rebuild...

Re: Spacer?

Was the head work because of a burned exhaust valve? There was probably no single "chunk", just some sparks that blew out the exhaust easily.

Re: Spacer?

It doesn't look "oil-wetted" or precision-machined; not rusty or greasy, either. I would ignore it.

Off-topic, but far worse is missing a small part that may have made its way into the engine...

Re: Hum/roar from front driver's side wheel area 2001 SC2 manual

^^^^ +1

I replaced a noisy front wheel bearing that had no obvious looseness or wear in the balls/races; but was still noisy.

Also, I would just tolerate a "trans noise" until it was certain...

Re: 1999 SOCH auto transmission problems

Well, besides "D", aren't there also a "3" and "2" positions for the gear lever? The car would certainly move in those, as well as "D", but the (manual) spool valve in the VB would be in a different...

Re: My 1994 Homecoming Edition "Restoration" Thread

Ask even for good parts, you will return them undamaged after modeling, correct?

Re: Only one axle driving the car

Yes, you are probably correct. Simply stop the turning one, drop it to the ground or wedge a piece of wood under the tire, and verify that the other wheel starts turning. Easiest way is to slip a...

Re: Replaced Clutch and Hydralics Still Slipping

There is a whole lot of stuff that glows under UV! First step is to clean the suspect area and see what comes back. Yeah, you may have to sacrifice some new dye/oil/refrig to hunt down...

Re: Replaced Clutch and Hydralics Still Slipping

OK, I think I understand now. The clutch isn't slipping, it is engaging fine. Good enough to stall the engine when you try to get going in what you think is 1st or 2nd.

It should be easy to...
