Re: Cruise

You should verify which trans it is before spending more time on this!

Re: Question about how the computer decides on Throttle Position

No, the IAC will not cause a bogus TP reading. Having thrown two TPS units at it, and getting different results with each, I would be looking hard at the TPS wiring (includes the connectors). You...

Re: Po731,po732, po734

It doesn't have to come from an SC2, any model/year S-series with an auto trans will be the same for that connector.

That isn't "potting", just a rubber seal that can be lifted out, although that...

Re: P0733 2002 sl2

Good plan. There is strong hint now that the problem is/was in the fuse panel connections; no need to look elsewhere unless the problem comes back.

Want to "tease the bear"? Remove the LP fuse...

Re: Fuel Injector Tester cleaner kit EM276 whats your thoughts

It looks like that doesn't do anything but power the injector. That can be done for $0-5, depending on the injector type and your cleverness.

Re: P0733 2002 sl2

CVB does sell on ebay, but I don't see a VB for the TAAT listed there. Call/email them for price.

Re: P0733 2002 sl2

The battery won't be an issue, unless it is so bad it sucks down the alternator; but in that case I think you would have noticeable cranking problems. the alternator should be keeping voltage well...

Re: P0733 2002 sl2

OK, then check the solenoid resistances; that is easy to do.

If no joy with the solenoids, we have to start talking about checking line-pressure with a gauge, checking the ISN, and then the...

Re: '95 SL2 manual, axle/CV problem

When I went to remove the axle nut I found it was not very tight. Not completely loose, but way under what it should have been. I'm guessing it took only 50-100 ft-lb to get it moving. Behind it...

Re: P0733 2002 sl2

First, check the three fuses for the trans. And swap the fuel-pump relay with a similar one from elsewhere on car.

Re: 1998 sc2 tach issues still

Yes, you understood my advice on the PNK wire correctly. Have you tried it yet??? I am eager to see if that works. I'm thinking now that you can leave the tach jumpered for 4-cyl

Re: Just died 5 times at stop lights...

That "mere moments after coming to a stop" makes me suspicious of the TPS and IAC valve, too. The TPS is easy to check with live-data, so I would certainly check it.

Re: 1998 sc2 tach issues still

I got that backwards last night, the adapter RED goes to the harness, the RED/GRN goes to the ICM. And, the PNK in the harness is coming from the "EIS" fuse, not the PCM; but that is an irrelevant...

Re: 1998 sc2 tach issues still

"The Auto Meter Tach Adapter wires in line on the positive 12 volt supply wire. It senses current on the coil positive wire and converts it to a 12 volt signal output."

I think you need to put...

Re: Just died 5 times at stop lights...

Check fuel pressure, TPS, and for injector pulses. A voltmeter can do the latter two, but for FP you will have to buy/rent/borrow a gauge. Your nearest FLAPS may loan those out for free.

Re: '95 SL2 manual, axle/CV problem

I went to a big vacant parking lot and did a lot of tight turns. It is having a "good" day today, made no noise going there or coming back; and no noise when first doing the turns.

However, when...

Re: belt question

The 90mm is the OEM, not the other way around; and it has plenty of clearance to a stock crank pulley (about 1/2" or more). Well, "plenty" for the engine to operate, maybe those smaller pulleys or...

Re: 1998 sc2 tach issues still

So, it is reading, but at 1/4 the proper rpm?

I'll check out the wiring connections you described and post again later.

I just re-read you last post, I think it is incomplete. You describe how...

Re: 1998 sc2 tach issues still

Maybe I'm reading the Autometer info wrong, but I don't think the above is correct. I think the 9117 goes in series with one of the ignition wires, after it the wire is cut.

What does Autometer...

Re: '95 SL2 manual, axle/CV problem

I did only a few sharp turns, but no noise then. The noise doesn't seem related to turns or bumps, only (maybe) engine load.

It is quite intermittent, doesn't pop up for long periods of time; but...

'95 SL2 manual, axle/CV problem

This is a long-shot, but can anybody suggest a definitive way to tell if an axle has a bad CV joint while the axle is still in the car? Rotating the shafts slowly with my hand on the joints, I think...

Re: REALLY hard to shift - bad cables? bad hydraulics?

Yep, lube on the cables would be my first guess, too. Machinery likes to be lubricated; if you blast it off to get things clean you have to re-lube.

Another possibility, depending on how wild you...

Re: REALLY hard to shift - bad cables? bad hydraulics?

If the shifting is still poor with the engine off, then disconnect both cables at the trans end and try moving both arms on the trans and the lever in the cabin. Let's see if we can get a clue as to...

Re: 5spd Transmission problem 1998 SL2

Power at 80 (I assume that isn't in 1st!) isn't important. We need to find out if the problem in 1st is because of a wrong gear or because of power loss. We will be looking in totally different...
