Re: Lazy and Thrifty Headliner Options?

Use some screws and washers and screw the sagging bits back up. There's even decorative screws for that purpose. Strips of thin wood between the screws will be better.
The front of my headliner...

Re: Ugh Lifter Tick after coolant drained and refilled ?

I switched the Dexcool for the universal green some years ago. New thermostat too. The temp never rose above the 1/4 mark. Replaced the 'stat, same thing.
Flushed the green and went back to Dexcool....

Re: Quick Checklist for better gas mileage?

What Dummo said. Until the engine is warmed up, it's running rich and the head/manifold isn't warm enough to vaporize gas very well = worst mpg, and 3 miles is not warmed up. Also, the rings haven't...

Re: Poor Headlight Performance

There's a GM quad headlight mod that will keep the lows on when the highbeanm are on. It helps a lot, but only when the highs are on.

Re: Rear Disc conversion

I just did the conversion last Sept, and I'm very pleased so far. The increased braking and pedal feel is huge. Even when the drums are at their best, they're barely doing anything.
I live in NH,...

Re: DRL's and Headlight High Beam Connection

I know if you pull the relay for the DRLs, one side headlight won't work. Perhaps the relay is bad.

Re: How does this brake hose look?

It's the same part # for both sides. I don't think there was a right and left.
The front has different r & l hoses.

Re: Disc conversion

As far a I can tell, it was a bad caliper. The replacement is ok.

Re: Disc conversion

Rockauto sent a new caliper pretty quick, and so far hasn't asked for the bad one back. If they don't want it, I'll take it apart and do a postmortem.
So now I have Brakes, with a capital B. Way WAY...

Re: Disc conversion

I started a return with Rock. We'll see if a new one is ok. This doesn't instill much confidence in Powerstop. I thought they were a decent brand.

Re: Disc conversion

The piston turns continuously, and the lever turns all the way until it hits the casting. I removed the nut holding the lever, but the lever is wedged on tightly. Moderate hits with a hammer didn't...

Re: Disc conversion

I'm not going to disassemble the entire caliper. I'm turning the piston while pushing in. How much is the piston supposed to turn? Does it stop turning, then back off so the slot is aligned? Or does...

Re: Disc conversion

Ok, I got under it and here's what I found.
I unhooked the cables from the actuator arm on the caliper and worked the arm with a channel lock. The right side is much stiffer than the left. A small...

Re: Disc conversion

With the drums, 3-5 clicks depending on the slope, was right.

Re: Disc conversion

When I installed the caliper, the piston was already in and aligned. I didn't touch it.
The arm actuated at first when I connected the cable, then didn't when adjusting the handle. I wonder what I...

Re: Disc conversion

The problem on mine isn't the handle adjustment, it might be down by the caliper. I'll have to get back under it and work the lever by hand, just to see if it's locked up.
In all my research, I've...

Disc conversion

After 2 weeks of delivery delays, bad new hub, frozen rusted parts, crawling around in the dirt driveway, rain, etc...it's just about finished.
Test drove it in my long driveway. Initial impression...

Re: New rear discs. Calipers not taking fluid

Test drove it in my long driveway. Initial impression is very good. Much more solid feel in the pedal than I ever had with the drums.

Re: New rear discs. Calipers not taking fluid

I wedge the pedal down with a bar against the seat. Then open the bleeder, then close the bleeder, then go back to the bar, reset it, and do it over, and over, and.....
I'm surprised I can do this...

Re: New rear discs. Calipers not taking fluid

It's starting to bleed now. One of these days I'll have to make a friend. This would be so much easier.

New rear discs. Calipers not taking fluid

Finishing up the rear disc conversion and ready to bleed, but the calipers are not taking in fluid. The hoses are new and fluid dribbled of the banjo before fitting to the caliper, so no clogs.
I...

How does this brake hose look?

In the middle of the disc brake conversion. One side is put together, but the new hose doesn't look right. The part # is correct, but it seems short, definitely shorter than the hose from the drum. ...

Why Saturn rear drum brakes have no stopping power.

I think I've got the answer.
Every drum brake set-up I have seen has the wheel cylinder at the top and the star adjuster at the bottom. This allows the shoes to be pushed out at the top and the...

Anyone have an extra bolt like this...?

I lost one of these bolts while doing my rear disc conversion. It hit the ground and was swallowed up, probably lost until next spring. My local hardware doesn't have it and I have no transport. I...
