The 2001 SL1. I can confirm it definitely does need to be programmed for it to work in a Gen3. Until I had it programmed, I had the exact same results - CC light displays but CC does not work.

The BCM needs to be programmed to enable the cruise control using a GM Tech2 scanner. It's basically a switch in the software (flip a bit). You can alternatively swap out the BCM for one optioned...
