Re: 2002 Saturn SL1 Quill Seal Removal

Run it for awhile and see how it goes. The dex/merc universal fluid is too thin actually and the Dex-6 is even thinner so the fix gets rather expensive if required. The thicker fluids will increase...

Re: 2002 Saturn SL1 Quill Seal Removal

How long depends on many unknowns.

Exactly what are you using for fluid?

If you disengage the clutch and wait for a 2 count the shift from neutral to 1st should be easier and the blocking ring...

If it works at all the hydraulics improve with age, likewise the clutch. If you can get into first with the engine running and car stopped then it is fine. Downshifting to 1st serves no real purpose.

Re: 2002 Saturn SL1 Quill Seal Removal

Did you buy the 4-115 version of the LUK clutch? IF yes, it works out of the box. There should be holes in the flywheel for the guide pins, they are required and not optional.

If the plastic tip...

Re: 2002 Saturn SL1 Quill Seal Removal

If you want to do this right then buy the LUK clutch and flywheel for a 91-98 Saturn part number 04-115. This one:...

Re: 2002 Saturn SL1 Quill Seal Removal

The correct replacements for any year Saturn clutch have been discussed at great lengths on here and the off brand low cost clutches are known to be highly problematic especially in the 3rd gen cars....

If you left the trans in gear with the fluid drained for 2 months that is your problem, if it shifts into any other gear easily then it is not a clutch-hydraulic problem.

Re: 2002 Saturn SL1 Quill Seal Removal

There is nothing you can do about it as new parts are not available. Those videos are also probably not specific to these transmissions and misleading.

What did you use for fluid and what did you...

Re: 2002 Saturn SL1 Quill Seal Removal

Measure the stroke and if in spec did you wind up the clutch cover before installing clutch? The hydraulics are a single component and replacement cylinders are not advised.

Clutch Wire Test...

Re: 2002 Saturn SL1 Quill Seal Removal

It will never cure in air. Wipe off the squeeze-out and press on. It is good to go.

Re: 2002 Saturn SL1 Quill Seal Removal

Re: 2002 Saturn SL1 Quill Seal Removal

Yes, use the double roll pin that fits the stock hole unless you want to drive like a maniac. Double pinning is over kill and requires a good drill press as a minimum to get it done or a machine...

Re: 2002 Saturn SL1 Quill Seal Removal

Beware that any attempt to hillbilly that bearing-seal assembly out of there results in a broken bell housing. The seal is set with Loctite 620 which has a vicious grip and gentle application of heat...
