Re: Im back <3 with a fun one
Not sure why you replaced the O2 sensor when the O2 sensor removal test told you the exhaust was restricted.
If the exhaust is in overall decent shape (or at least weldable) and you have a welder...

Re: Right rear wheel-bearing replacement
Correction: The 10mm hex head is tiny for the bolt size.
If the head was sized properly to the bolt it'd be 13-14mm.
You can usually hammer the bearing out from the inside once the bolts are...

Re: Can I swap a sl1 engine into a sl2 car?
The DOHC PCM won't be happy running the SL1 engine but it will run the MP7 transmission.
The SOHC PCM won't run the MP7, at all. Trans swap is required and with the parts stated to be on hand that...

Re: Can I swap a sl1 engine into a sl2 car?
You'll actually be doing 2 things, in order to have a working car. An engine swap AND a transmission swap. Easy weekend job if you've done a couple and don't take a beer break (drinks sure, beer? no...

Re: Dorman shifter cable bushing
The bushing needs to rotate in a couple different directions, if you JB Weld it to the bushing it won't rotate the way it needs to and it'll break it's connecting to the shift cable. This can't be...

Re: Throttle body 1995 vs 1997 SL1
Check the vacuum harness on top, it changes. Specifically they flip/flop which side of the throttle plate the big hose and little hose's are on. "Works" to swap the harness as well but there's a good...

Re: Engine swap 02 SC2 - non air pump head?
No-air pump was a Fed vs Cali emission level thing '99-'00; standard '01-'02. Very complicated swap, no way anybody would just switch the manifold & downpipe to get rid of the stupid system on...

Re: 1997 sw1 brake mysterio???
It's either stuck in the Vacuum booster or in the rear drums. If the engine was running during the brake test I'd say the MC failed and now the pressure booster is filling with fluid. You should be...

Re: Weird Idling Issues, Worsening Over Time
3% compression loss for every 1000ft elevation so 10k feet is about 30% loss making 200psi at sea level means you'll only see about 140psi at 10k feet. 105psi is still low, but is more like 150psi at...

Re: SC BODY Panels
The roof panel is spot welded to the car before the front & rear windows are installed on top of it. Not impossible to replace, but best if done as part of a stripped to frame restoration. Seam...

If you mean another gasket then I'd bet money it's like the valve cover gasket...you either get pre-molded black/blue RTV or black RTV in a box.

Re: 97 Saturn VSS issues
I don't think the oil pressure line will reach to the VSS without a lot of work. Probably possible...I got the A/C compressor wire and O2 sensor wire mixed up on a '93 once and spent a few weeks...

I really really hate the electronic GM FSM I have. If it has the same info as AllData, it's buried under stupid crap and/or not accessible in both locations of the manual that make sense. Started...

Re: 97 Saturn VSS issues
Sensor should read 800-1600ohms across the terminals.
Not sure how you'd fake a signal to the PCM but AllData says it's a square wave 0-12vdc and 5000ppm.

Re: Premium Guard fuel filters any good?
'91-'97 cars use a fuel filter. '98-'02 cars use a fuel filter + pressure regulator combo.
'97 and earlier can use whatever filter you can attach to the lines that flows the required amount of...

They're identical. Not sure I'd swap the trans and coolant with each other simply to keep any amount of the fluids from mixing.

Re: EGR Simulator
My GM Techline TSI/ESI says P1406 isn't valid for the S-Series for any year and P14xx codes aren't valid until around '98. Forum search's show otherwise, but I don't have the printed FSM's to argue...

Re: Mystery coolant loss. Head gasket?
I'd start with a new reservoir cap. They're not all that failure prone, but 1 boil over event seems to kill them even if it leaves the rest of the engine perfectly fine.
