OBD1 to OBD2 Adapter

Going backwards in Saturn ownership from 2002 SL to recently acquired 1993 SL2. Have OBD2 reader from '02 ownership, and refuse to pay over $30 for an OBD1 version (yes, use the paperclip method...

Re: Crank, No Start on "new" '93 SL2 (77k!!!) UPDATE

Leather? Yep, and very beige-ish! Rear seat nearly unused, driver's seat needs a deep cleaning and needs one of the upper seat bolsters replaced due to wear.

Previous owner added an electric...

Re: Crank, No Start on "new" '93 SL2 (77k!!!) UPDATE

It had run up to the day it wouldn't, new ignition parts tossed in and could not get it restarted. Then sat for eight months until the opportunity came it work on it again - which, surprisingly,...

Re: Crank, No Start on "new" '93 SL2 (77k!!!) UPDATE

MPFI with throttle body air intake.

Maiden voyage was uneventful - after 20 years in an '02 SL with manual, having an automatic seems to make it a bit of a dog. Rotors are bit wobbly, probably...

Re: Crank, No Start on "new" '93 SL2 (77k!!!) UPDATE

It had been running the day before it wouldn't start, so I didn't immediately sense compression was the issue... . Vehicle has extremely low miles (for a thirty year old car), so my direction was to...

Crank, No Start on "new" '93 SL2 (77k!!!) UPDATE

Well, stumped again.

Was in the process of inheriting a '93 SL2, when a no start issue popped up.

Hard time diagnosing OBDI, came up with Quad output issue and started tossing parts at the...

Re: Crank, No Start on "new" '93 SL2 (77k!!!)

Thanks for response and link to Quad fault diagnostics - just need to get it running first!

Will be very surprised if we have a compression issue as car was running well before it wouldn't start....

Crank, No Start on "new" '93 SL2 (77k!!!)

Saddest day of Saturn ownership was when I gave away my perfectly running '02 SL with 360,000mi. Most reliable vehicle I have ever owned.

Second saddest day of Saturn ownership was when I was...

Re: Famous quad code 26 list needed.

Helping a friend get his late mother's '93 SL2 back on the road and heard it had this Quad Code 26 problem (thank goodness my '02 had OBDII!!). Can follow along with the diagnostics chart, but was...

Re: Gone, Not Forgotten

Not a fan of our "No Fault" set up, esp. when if we lived 9 mi south (in OH), we'd pay 40% less for the same coverage.

Our Saturn was my work vehicle, which had basic coverage, no collision,...

Gone, Not Forgotten

After nearly 20 years ownership and just over 360,000 amazingly trouble-free miles, we're no longer Saturn drivers. Our 2002 Silver Blue Saturn SL went to the mechanics who helped it reach old age...

Re: The Best Power Steering Fluid

Have used Valvoline PS for years using baster method to clear out old fluid. Try to do this about once a year.

Guilty Repairs

After trying several methods to reattach my floppy driver's side door skin (broken tabs), I relented to do unholy repair with some silicone adhesive with Gorilla tape holding everything in place....

350,000 and Counting

Rolled over the 350,000 mark this weekend... . Got nearly 38mpg with mostly highway driving, which I think is pretty decent considering wear and tear on unit. Celebrated with another oil change!

Re: Flaky Rotor

Amazingly normal. Might have been some additional wear due to the rough surface, but otherwise no defect on the pad side to speak of.

It looks like the metal started to delaminate, prob due to...

Flaky Rotor

Wondering if anyone else has seen this before (I hadn't). Less than two years on current brake job, noticed stopping power had fallen off. Checked one wheel, noticed good amount of pad left -...

Re: Pimpin' the SL

The stuff they used gave it an almost "wet" look - very slick and glossy looking. Wonder if it was some king of silicone spray.

Whatever it was, it really made the plastic inner fenders stand out.

Pimpin' the SL

My Saturn dealer (Southfield, MI) would deliver new Saturns with some type of detailing product that made the plastic inner fender liners, slick, smooth and shiny... .

Going to celebrate 350,000...

Re: Age and Mileage (MPG)

Great feedback! Much appreciated.

Compression check would be interesting - might not like the results I see, however. Will research cost of injectors to see if it makes sense to pick up a couple...

Age and Mileage (MPG)

My '02 SL had gotten pretty decent mileage (MPG) for most of its life (37-39 MPG Summer and 35 mpg Winter). Very consistent, very predictable based on how I drove.

With higher mileage (now...

Re: Life span of water pump.......?

Can guarantee new part will not last as long as the OE one... . Having said that, got 240,000 from original one, and now another 100,000 on the NAPA replacement.

Like to get Delco/GM replacements...

Re: Oil drain plug gasket

Fumoto drain valves are around $25, if I remember correctly. They insert like a regular drain plug, but have a spring loaded lever which turns a ball valve. Have installed on multiple vehicles...

Re: S-Series Mileage Milestones 100k 150k 200k 250k and beyond

THIRD OF A MILLION MILES! It took 17 years, but finally reached the big third of million mile milestone last week. Like many of you folks, it's amazing what I haven't had to replace/repair after all...

Re: Oil drain plug gasket

That's the beauty of installing a Fumoto valve - haven't needed a new drainplug gasket for over 300,000 miles.
