Re: Output Shaft Quill Seal Qs

Engines draw the crankcase air in through the air filter for combustion air, and have oil filters, and generally have the oil and filter changed frequently. The trans snout would be drawing in air...

Re: 98 Saturn sl2 engine swap help

Do you have live-data? What is the MAP; KOEO, idling, full throttle, and cruising around on level ground (any speed will do)?

PS: if your location altitude is over 500 ft., let us know how high.

Re: Output Shaft Quill Seal Qs

I think any scheme to replace just the seal, re-using and old bearing, is too limited to be worthwhile. Yeah, the seal seems to be a problem more often, but sooner-or-later the bearing will need to...

Re: Output Shaft Quill Seal Qs

"Sort on time"? Nah, that should have been "short on time"... no time to proof-read, obviously!

Some of the earlier discussion on this quill was by PM or private email, However, the crucial...

Re: Output Shaft Quill Seal Qs

You see no dimensions mentioned in reply #23 above???

There are others, but I am sort on time right now...

Re: Output Shaft Quill Seal Qs

Go read from the beginning of this thread to find specific dimensions. I, too, thought it should be a relatively routine task to swap in some standard parts; but cgg17 provided dimensions that show...

Re: Intermittent Stall at Idle

When I had a similar problem with my '94 SL2, it turned out to be the 5V supply in the PCM was flakey. My symptoms started with the "idle stutter", then progressed to include sometimes hard...

Re: 1999 SW2 no start

Parallel will work fine.

Measure resistance from that terminal on the starter to ground to get some clue as to amperage. I'm guessing about 10A.

Re: 2000 Sw2 77k miles trans issues.

Did you swap solenoids around? If the one in the TCC position is stuck/damaged, pulling the fuses will have no effect. Pulling the fuses was just to eliminate all other electrical...

Re: 1999 SW2 no start

#20 or larger should be good enough for this very brief duty, but I would probably use #16. (copper)

A pushbutton, or any other kind of "mometary on" switch, will work OK. Even non-momentary,...

Re: Output Shaft Quill Seal Qs

Wow, sounds too good to be true; that whole casting assembly for only $106

I hope somebody orders one to confirm it is legit.

Re: 1999 SW2 no start

In its simplest form, that PPL wire goes through a safety-switch activated by either the clutch or the auto trans being in P or N. Power to the safety-switch comes from the ignition switch. I don't...

Re: 1999 SW2 no start

I think the OP is saying that parasitic draw is not now suspected. The battery stayed fully charged, but cranking was slow. Now, no voltage to the PPL wire?

Track that missing power to the PPL...

Re: 2000 Sw2 77k miles trans issues.

OK. then take that top cover off the trans and swap the TCC solenoid with one of the others. If you still can find out which one is the TCC solenoid, mix them all around so that none are in the...

Pull all three of the trans fuses and see if the TCC is still locked

Re: Output Shaft Quill Seal Qs

Has anybody tried adding the "weep hole", as suggested in replies #11 and #14? That seems to be the practical solution to the seal wear. Maybe even JB-weld a return to the trans case so no seal is...

Re: Crank, No Start on "new" '93 SL2 (77k!!!) UPDATE

You actually threw all those parts at it, but didn't check compression first???

When near-new, my '94 DOHC lost all compression on all cylinders, just sitting in my garage; then self-healed after...

Re: Sl1 extreme wandering 60+ mph

Get the front alignment checked. Maybe the previous owner lied, maybe they had the alignment done by an unqualified person. Point is, this is most probably a front end alignment problem. Not...

Re: Battery light flickering, RPMS go to 0 while at expressway speeds

The battery/alternator light could come on if there was a problem with the ignition switch/circuit. Other things could do it too, but the ignition is one possibility.

And, of course, the engine...

Re: Battery light flickering, RPMS go to 0 while at expressway speeds

I should note that a CKP problem probably would not cause the alternator light to flash. That hints at a problem with the ignition/run circuit. We really need to get the codes before further...

Re: Battery light flickering, RPMS go to 0 while at expressway speeds

Please confirm: is it really intermittent, you can often drive along in the 70mph range with no problem? And, when the engine is dying, or going limp, other electrical stuff like the radio and...

Re: Right transmission for my 98 sc2

You have a lot of options here.

It sounds like a valve body (VB) change would solve this; and it is a trivial task to change it. I suggest you get a VB with both of the more important Sonnax...

Re: Battery light flickering, RPMS go to 0 while at expressway speeds

Since the radio and other stuff do not die, all those alt/starter/cable/UHJB connections are probably OK. I'm not saying to ignore grounds or the battery side connections, only that we should not...

Re: Right transmission for my 98 sc2

The "USAparts" link is for a manual trans; that certainly isn't an MP7. Converting to a manual trans is certainly possible, and has some benefits, but you need to decide focus on either a manual or...
