The ones installed in the winter months did not seem to last at all.

Fixed (about a month ago), actually easy to remove with a small needle nose.

Initially I accidently reinstalled the bad one & the light went off briefly until I got to the end of my street.

99% sure bad switch, now just getting the old one out.

Disconnecting the switch makes both lamps extinguish.

Everything is difficult to reach!:)

The tabs accessible from the side opposite the connector I assume?

It slides in a square chamber through the center of the tank from your description.

A few years back, they (my oil change & sometimes tire dealer) refused to put the bad ones on the back per their independent study, I would think you want the traction in the front.

So this switch is NO (normally open) then, & is that the only 2 items that would trip the Brake lamp (Low fluid & the parking brake switch)?

No, this was a like a very thin lacquer coating so the wheel would have to be extremely clean, any brake dust would be sealed under it. I wet sanded the facings &/or used a 0000 steel wool then...
