Re: Log Books

Yes, I have a small, oil-stained spiral notebook in the car documenting repairs, oil changes, maintenance, mileage milestones, etc. and a white board in the garage on which I write the dates and/or...

Re: Interchangeability of parts

I tried oiling the socket when I was there, but it was just too big. But, I went to the hardware store today and I found a nut driver of the right size. Next time I go to the junkyard I'll have what...

Re: Interchangeability of parts

Thank you, that was helpful. The only stuff I got today was little stuff but now I know for future reference. I got a few little odds and ends from the interior of the car in a junkyard today,...

Interchangeability of parts

So I'm going to have to make another junkyard run in the near future, and I'm finding that Gen 1 Saturns are becoming scarce even in junkyards, and I was wondering how many parts from Gen 2 Saturns...

Re: Hit 300,000 miles tonight

I have to add a quart every thousand miles or so. The oil loss isn't consistent, but I haven't really noticed a pattern.

Hit 300,000 miles tonight

Reached a big milestone tonight, 300,000 miles! Hoping for many more miles in time.

Re: Just died 5 times at stop lights...

I once had a problem like that, where the car would stall upon stopping at a stop sign or a red light. It was the reason I discovered this forum :) The problem turned out to be the engine coolant...

Re: Gen 1 SL Body Panel Giveaway

I can't even give this stuff away?! I'm tossing them if no one claims them by Monday.

Gen 1 SL Body Panel Giveaway

It turns out I'm not much of a painter, so a couple of months ago when I was lucky enough to find a junked Saturn the same color as mine, I was able to replace some mismatched panels and have a...

Some panels, some rust, and some fun in the park

So the other day, I was browsing junkyards on the internet as I do from time to time, to see if they had any Saturns from which I could cannibalize something useful. In particular, I hoped to find...

Re: Ignition cylinder stuck between OFF and ACC

No luck getting it out. No amount of cleaning it, lubricating it, prying at it, beating on it, or cursing at it made any difference. After about an hour, I was thoroughly exhausted and drenched in...

Ignition cylinder stuck between OFF and ACC

So the old Saturn has been running great until this afternoon, when I stopped it upon coming home, the key abruptly jammed in place before it reached the full "off" position. It wouldn't turn left or...

Re: Repairing or Replacing Driver's Seat

The new seat is in the car. I had only a half day of work today, so this was a productive way to spend the afternoon.

I have only a basic sewing kit and the most rudimentary sewing skills, so I...

Re: Repairing or Replacing Driver's Seat

Ok, I'm getting there!

I was able to locate a junkyard out of town that was open all day Saturday and had two Saturns of the right model and year! One of them had a driver's seat that was...

Re: Repairing or Replacing Driver's Seat

Hmm. Well, maybe I'll try again, after replacing the seat and the cracked panel. I'll have to get some more paint, too.

Re: Repairing or Replacing Driver's Seat

I used some paint stripper to get rid of the vestiges of a previous failed attempt to paint it, and then sanded it until it no longer looked shiny.

Re: Repairing or Replacing Driver's Seat

I tried that, primed it, followed all the instructions, but most of the new paint cracked and peeled off within a year. (Here's what it looked like after painting...

Check your PM for the first answer. (EDIT: Browser hung momentarily while sending - you might get it twice)

As for color coordination, I'm not too picky. I'd give preference to a part that...

Repairing or Replacing Driver's Seat

I need some tips for repairing the driver's seat in my Saturn. In one place, on the back part near the lower left corner, it has worn out to the point where the filling is crumbing away, and a couple...

Re: Momentary high idle, codes 35 and 49

Thanks guys. It turned out to be something very simple! I heard a moderate hiss when the engine was running with the hood open, but couldn't pinpoint it by ear alone (slight hearing problems). The...

Re: What did you do to your S-Series today...

Plain white off-white cotton and a can of Loctite spray adhesive. Nothing fancy.
