Re: Sway Bar Bushings

I live in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and both my car and a friend's have seen plenty of salt. However, with soaking the nuts the night before, and then again before bolt removal, I've had no issues. Never...

Re: Sway Bar Bushings

Spray lots of PB blaster at those nuts any way you can. OldNuc used to warn that they'd break loose if rusted too much. That would be a bad day.

Re: Struggling to idle at start when hot

Few other things to consider that have either happened to myself or my friend with the same model Saturn: Try unplugging the EGR valve. If its sensor is sending erroneous data, but isn't enough to...

Re: Alignment For A Smooth Ride

See, what I've read was the opposite, that toe-in caused inner tire wear, and vice versa. With rear-leaning caster, toe-in would cause the inner edges to contact most, but maybe I'm missing...

Re: Blend door motor ??

If a 96 is like a 99, you can also access it through the top by removing the top dash cover. It's still a pita, though. For quite a while I had it removed, and would just reach up from underneath and...

Re: Alignment For A Smooth Ride

Ya, tough to say if they'd do custom settings for you. They always did factory spec for me, and I was always dissatisfied with the ride. Now, I do all of my own alignments. Tedious, but effective. ...

Re: REALLY hard to shift - bad cables? bad hydraulics?

So, 3 things. First, I partially apologize because I did kinda graze this post quickly. This time I re-read it better.

Second, however, what I did see is that it was easy to shift with the engine...

Re: REALLY hard to shift - bad cables? bad hydraulics?

Seems to be a common problem with the Dex 3, if one hoses down the engine. Water gets in and causes poor shifting.

Re: REALLY hard to shift - bad cables? bad hydraulics?

You likely need a new clutch. I replaced mine 2 years ago at 325,000 miles, and wish I had sooner. The diaphragm spring fingers get weak, and don't transfer motion to the diaphragm spring to lift the...

Re: How to bleed a sealed clutch hydraulic assembly

I did all sorts of things to my hydraulic system--bleed, replace, even increased the reservoir check valve spring tension. All of this made temporary improvements, and eventually what happened is...

Re: Blend door motor ??

The motors on eBay for Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Malibu, etc., look virtually identical. Inspect well and see if they are. If not identical, perhaps the gear inside is.

On my '99 SL2, the large...

Alignment For A Smooth Ride

Something interesting for you to try: I've read that the factory felt that front toe and camber were best at zero, and I agree with the camber part. Even a half degree in front is enough to make...

Re: Power windows slow?....Try this tip..!

I know that others here have indicated success with petroleum type greases such as litheum, but you really don't want to use a petroleum grease on rubber. It both swells and damages the rubber, and...

Re: Power windows slow?....Try this tip..!

I pour Dot 5 silicone brake fluid down the tracks. I have never used lithium or petroleum type greases because I was unsure as to how they'd affect the rubber. As in your experience, however, the...

Re: Piston Ring Cleaning

...There is a way to significantly reduce oil burning, without removing pistons, but it doesn't involve anything mentioned here.

Re: Manual Transmission Shifter Link

I've used the second one with good success. There's also a plastic one in which a metal ring is inserted to keep the fingers expanded. I applied super glue to the ring because it looked like it would...

Re: Idle air control solenoid- part#

Mine started sticking at over 300,000 miles IN Chicago traffic. Idle would hold at 3K, and was not resettable. Cleaning and lubing it didn't fix the problem. Bought one on ebay for $10. Still good. ...

Re: Fuse panel issues

Yes, my car has this relay, and doesn't even have an anti-theft system. I could not find this relay on my friend's 2001, which does have an anti-theft system. Worth looking for, though. Good pointer....

Re: Alternator Intermittently charging/Inconsistent Voltage

https://www.ebay.com/itm/322137515749

Not sure if this is the correct item. I just typed in 1999 Saturn (my car), and it came up as a match, but these seem very abundant and cheap in many styles...

I used to honk and wave, but I just got strange looks. I doubt that many of the Saturn drivers I've encountered saw their cars as anything special. I just mind my own business now, but I do enjoy...

I've also noticed that my fuel pump relay contacts run hot. If you have the time and energy, it doesn't hurt to go through all of the exterior and interior fuse contact receptacles. They pull off....

Re: Fuse panel issues

I recently tightened all of the 30 amp engine bay fuse receptacle contacts, which solved my no start issue. I revealed the problem by correcting the problem by wiggling the fuses. They were very...
