Re: Astra 45k mile service - inexpensive & runs like new!

AC died today, only blowing ambient air into the cabin.

The condenser has some minor damage at front-bottom-left. Plus a bit of staining. See photos below.

The compressor and fans work...

Re: no start

You might try pinging the Euro forums; their cars are slightly different but not by much.

- Provide a summary of the problems and what you did / replaced so far. And if any replaced parts are OEM...

Re: no start

The Euro forums show some Astras with wire-clamp area corrosion, particularly under the insulation.

Unless you have the tools, just replace the battery negative cable with a high-quality cable....

Re: no start

To test this assumption, we just pulled the battery out of the key fob 50 feet from the Astra. When we inserted the "batteryless-key" into the ignition, the Astra started fine, ran fine, and shifted...

Park Pilot sensors - rare Euro option

A few Euro Astras were equipped with "Park Pilot". Maybe just marketed for the upmarket VXR models?

Essentially this option had parking sensors on the front and rear bumpers. Park pilot would emit...

Re: no start

That is inconvenient.

Euro forums state most codes will clear by disconnecting the battery for a few hours. That would give you a fighting chance.

Re: no start

As Fred noted in his guide, "Note on Immobilizers": if the engine turns over and you have a spark at the plug its hardly likely to be the immobilizer, i cant see how the immobilizer can block the...

Re: no start

Fred Basset over at Vauxhall Owners Network writes the basic immobilizer logic for Astra no starts. It's not that detailed but is from an Astra expert.

You will see some crank sensors cause...

Re: no start

That is progress.

Fuel system issues are pretty rare in the Astra forums. Below is a good fuel delivery video diagnosis for a similar Astra with a hand-written fuel system wiring diagram you...

Re: no start

FYI - the integrated fuel filter is on top of the fuel tank. The Euro Astras have an access panel under the rear seat; US cars do not. Someone here sawed out an access panel so had some photos and...

Re: no start

This is a good video series on a no-start US Astra with a ton of problems. Some of the more advanced diagnostics require some extra steps, which are outlined in the videos.

A few people here posted they cleaned the intake to clear the code (assuming it is not broken). This Canadian GM tech also said he cleaned some of the intakes for this code:

Re: Serpentine belt diagram/pattern help

I think this is what ours looks like:

To replace the accessory belt, we did not need...

You can search the forums here for each of those codes for more data. The UK forums can also be helpful but their engines are slightly different.

The z18xer engine is a bit sensitive as you see...

What codes are you getting?

Can you post some pictures of what you are looking at? If you do, I can look at my Astra and compare.

Below is a video of the z18xer engine which you might find...

Re: Valve Cover Gasket

That is too bad. Hope you get the radiator sorted quickly. At least you don't have the defective radiator used with auto transmission Astras.

Baffling to put an oil cooler behind the hot exhaust...

And a UK bloke named Matt did a refit in the link below; it is a good read. This was called "electronic climate control" (ECC). Not sure if the Tech2 programming would work on our Astras.

Re: Something inside driver door broke?

Maybe the wire fell off the handle. At about 2:45 on this video you see how that connects. Also the handle could have broken which you could source from a junkyard.

Re: Engine died, seeking advice.

How is the oil level and condition? That is critical on these cars for the VVT. You really need to use good full synthetic oil and change say every 5k miles.

When was the last time the timing belt...
