Re: 1997 Saturn SW2 (HELP)

I didn't read through the whole post. There is a fusible link in the red wire coming off of the alternator. If that fuse is blown then the alternator won't charge the battery. A simple continuity...

Re: Problem with engine RPMS falling too slowly when put clutch in-- SL-1

The revs hang on purpose. It is for emissions purposes. The actual clutch discs on these seem to last quite a while so I wouldn't worry about that. The biggest issue with the clutches on these in the...

Re: Another poor heat thread...

I've been driving a SOHC or DOHC Saturn of one flavor or another in Michigan for over 15 years and I've never had an issue with heat when the cars are working properly. I've had several thermostats...

Re: Exhaust manifold studs

The studs in the head or the studs at the manifold to downpipe joint? The studs in the head are the same as the intake manifold studs on the other side. I'm pretty sure the original part number is...

Re: 98 SC2 P171-Fuel trim System Lean, help fix Please!

billr hinted at it, but "and it seems to crank a bit more than it should before starting" stood out to me. The fuel pressure regulator for your car is in your fuel filter. I would be willing to bet...

Re: Your favorite tires?

I decided a long time ago that cheap tires just weren't worth it to me. I have Michelin Defenders on my wife's SW2 and they have been good tires. Quiet, good all season traction, good treadwear,...

Re: Northeastern Exhaust

Last time I checked with them, just the muffler was stainless. The rest was aluminized steel otherwise I would have those pipes on my car right now.

Read the fine print down below. The finish for...

Re: Shift Cable Rod End Alternatives

Your comment has me confused. I initially replaced the factory bushing with the stainless steel version commonly available on ebay. I broke the ends off of two OEM cables after installing that....

Shift Cable Rod End Alternatives

Well, after installing the stainless steel shifter bushing back in March on my wife's SW2 I've had two cable ends come off of the shift cables for the fore/aft controls. I cannot say it is the fault...

Re: 1998 SC2, MagnaFlow Exhaust Question

I think L4 is just generic for inline four cylinder engine. I don't think they are using it as an engine code. They do show it only fitting the SX2 cars so I think that says that they do recognize...

Re: 1998 SC2, MagnaFlow Exhaust Question

Who did you buy it from? This is the guy I bought mine from: https://www.ebay.com/usr/jwim_llc/

He doesn't have any other 23450's listed, but maybe worth asking.

The part I got looks like the...

Re: 1998 SC2, MagnaFlow Exhaust Question

Does yours measure differently than mine? It is difficult to show good measurements in a picture since the angle skews the view so much. If you want me to got some exact numbers from the pipe I have...

Re: 1998 SC2, MagnaFlow Exhaust Question

Okay, I had a chance to get out to the pole barn last night. The box it came in does have the Magnaflow tag/sticker on it. It also came with the warranty card you are supposed to fill out and send...

Re: 1998 SC2, MagnaFlow Exhaust Question

I still have the box and there was something that said Magnaflow in there I think. I'll try to take a look tonight when I get home. I suppose it is possible the part I got is/was older.

Re: 1998 SC2, MagnaFlow Exhaust Question

Yeah, not sure on that one. It looks like the hanger rods are two separate pieces? All of the other aftermarket parts I am seeing are just one rod. Do the pipes look like stainless? Hard to tell from...

Re: Right rear wheel-bearing replacement

Well last night was a bust. I have several other bolts in my toolbox where I keep the screws that I did use so I cannot give you the exact dimensions of what I used. You will need to do a little...

Re: Right rear wheel-bearing replacement

If you use the long bolt to press the bearing out you don't even touch the brakes. Everything stays in place on the backing plate. Unless you want to take them apart then have at it. Use plenty of...

Re: Right rear wheel-bearing replacement

I have the bolts in my toolbox at home. If nobody responds today I'll post it tonight. I want to say they are M8, but I can confirm. They don't need to be anything special. I think I just picked some...

Re: Right rear wheel-bearing replacement

It has been a few years, but it is pretty simple. I believe the bolts have 10mm heads on them. I do not recall what the thread size is. There should be a hole in the hub (where the lug studs are)...

Re: 2001 Saturn sl2, maintenance questions and more.

Don't bother lowering it. It just isn't worth it. I don't even know if anybody even still sells lowering springs for these. I had the Progress lowering springs in my old wagon which are widely...

Re: 1995 SL-2 Dash pad

When you say dash pad are you referring to the rigid plastic top cover piece? I swapped the dash from my '95 SW2 into my wife's '98 SW2 and the '98 into my '95 before I scrapped it because my wife's...

Re: 99 SL2 Transmission wont go into gear

What does it feel like to shift while sitting still with the engine off? Can you have someone manipulate the shifter while you check out what is going on on the transmission side?

Re: 1998 SC2 Valve Guide replacement

I picked up one of those ebay GM rebuilt heads since it is such an amazing deal and the seller offered a discount on top of that. I received it yesterday. It is a quality piece. It would cost a ton...
