Re: Worried engine seized, but hopefully just the Starter

This is the solution: So much easier to hang the starter on studs than to mate bolts to the engine/transmission.

Re: Intermitent Starting

This may or may not be your problem at 75K miles, but per Oldnuc, who is no longer with us (RIP) the brushes in the starters wear out. This can be temporarily be solved by hitting the starter with a...

Re: just replaced the valve body, new problems arose

That's what I was going to ask. There is a steel L shaped prong in the transmission, and the end of that has to go into the little piston thing on the bottom of the valve body, otherwise it will...

Re: Archive of this Forum

I've been saving posts that are important to me as PDFs, but I know it's only a matter of time before data gets lost. We've already lost the photo forum, and as a major example of this it's important...

Re: Trying to remove dashboard housing

That appears to be a grounding wire in the driver's side kick panel. Looks to be either a 10mm or 8mm. If it won't budge you can use penetrating oil on the thread side, or use a blowtorch to heat it...

Re: Under-seat jackpot!

If you have the time you can remove the seats and the center console, then take out the entire carpet. Once the carpet is out you can hose it down in the driveway or take it to the car wash to...

Re: Massive Parts Lot - Orange SC and S-Series Parts For Sale

I love threads like this where the community comes together and talks about parts for these old cars. Thank you for posting and sharing.

Re: Log Books

I use the Notes app on iOS. Each car has it's own note, and within that Note I have different sections for the fuel log, oil change and topoff log, and maintenance.

Re: loose timing chain? 96 DOHC 1.9

How many miles on it? Eventually the guides wear out and the tensioner isn't able to take up the slack. A new timing set can be ordered which includes the chain, guides, gears, and tensioner.

Re: WTB S-series in MN, near MSP July 10 2021

I'm in Brooklyn Park just north of Minneapolis. I can get it ready for Saturday. It's not perfect but it makes great winter beater. With Blizzak snow tires it got me to work last winter in one of the...

Re: WTB S-series in MN, near MSP July 10 2021

I'm probably going to be selling my winter beater 95 SC2, might be a good option for you. It does have some issues but drives really nice. I'm moving so I picked up a Ford SUV the other day, and I...

Re: Lusting after a driveway find SW2

I still miss mine since the teenager crashed into me almost 4 years ago. Still have the rebuilt engine sitting under the workbench in the garage waiting for a new donor carcass.

Re: LUK Clutch Master Cylinder now different product?

The one I got from Rock Auto about a year ago that went into my rebuild squeaks, same kind of squeak too. Have not made it a priority to look at it, but if it's not the pivot, it's where the rod goes...

Re: Making a new bushing on transmission side of linkage.

If you have pictures of that 12mm socket and fuel hose substitution I'm sure we'd all like to see them. I just haven't gotten to the point where I needed to be that creative yet.

While you were...

Re: Making a new bushing on transmission side of linkage.

We are looking at the end of the shift linkage that goes to the shift tower on top of the transmission. On the end of that loop is the hole for a rubber bushing, and inside that bushing is a...

Re: 1999 SW2 front control arms

Moog/TWR for the control arms, hopefully the quality is still holding up. The bushings in the control arms come with the control arms and not the sway bar. While you are at it, this is a good time to...

Re: I have a coolant boiling issue

Yep, the coolant caps leak. Also, if you've been adding water, but no coolant, your coolant concentration is now low, and this reduces the boiling point, and that may be part of the problem. Having a...

Re: RIP Oldnuc

I had a feeling something like this was going on. Rest in peace, dear sir. OldNuc helped me with my first engine rebuild back in 2011. I learned so much and he had an encyclopedia like knowledge of...

Re: '98 DOHC Head Gasket Replacment

The shim does work, I used copper spray gasket on one side. I have 2K miles on my rebuild and it's going good. It's not a lot of miles, but it runs like a champ.

That bracket is either for the 1PM...

Re: How many s series owners became ion owners

It was a hard no for me once I saw the center dash of the Ion at the car show, too distracting. IMO, one does not "graduate" to an Ion. One is a bespoke design made to compete with Japanese models,...

Re: 98 sc2 windshield glass

I would also ask them if an aftermarket is available in case you haven't, they are 22 years old. I just checked gmpartsgiant to grab the part numbers, and ran those numbers through,...

Re: It's Been a While

Looks like a nice build and you've spent a ton of time on it and it seems like this would really kick even as a NA build.
I'm sure you've got a 2nd car in case the turbo doesn't go smoothly.

Re: Another engine cradle topic

IIRC, the subframe to spaceframe alignment holes are 9/16", but I used a couple of 1/2" wooden dowels and that has worked fine for a couple of subframes.
