Re: Engine Smoking...Synthetic or Natural Oil???

I used to use Rotella full synthetic diesel 20W40 in my '94 SL2. It almost didn't burn any oil at all, and it never visibly smoked. I don't remember if it was T5 or T6. But it was full synthetic...

Re: What did you do to your S-Series today...

This past Wednesday:

I replaced the instrument cluster with a wrecking yard part after substituting in my original odometer into the replacement to keep my mileage correct. My original...

Re: 94 SL2 HCE Auto: surge while cruising at speed

I found a part number for the little 3 hole grommet. The part number is 21006639. That came from the parts guy at a GM dealership.
He printed the page out for me, and that part number seems to...

Re: Trying to figure out if aftermarket motor mounts still suck in 2021

Ok, so it took me 5 minutes to change. lol. I forgot that the lower air dam would interfere with getting the jack under the car.

Anyway, I installed the new mount today, and I must say that it...

Re: 94 SL2 HCE Auto: surge while cruising at speed

Does anyone have an exploded view of the throttle body?

I would love to see part numbers of the peripheral parts, like that 3-hose assembly and the 3-hole grommet that goes between the hoses...

Re: Drat. Idler pulley boss snapped off...

In my experience, JB Weld didn't hold up to underhood temperature.

I broke a bolt off removing the thermostat neck under the hood of a Ford Aerostar van. I couldn't get in there to get the bolt...

Re: 94 SL2 HCE Auto: surge while cruising at speed

I discovered yesterday night that the vacuum source on the throttle body for the EGR solenoid is "ported". That means the vacuum goes away when the throttle is closed and increases as you push the...

Re: Hit deer, driver side mirror broke off, wire harness torn off

Look at and compare all the pins you have. Chance are there will be differences in the tangs as they've all been jerked out of the plastic.

The tangs are like spikes that stick out into the...

Re: Dashcam Power Setup

In my car, I used the power supply to the electric windows to power my GPS.

That circuit it designed to supply much more power (4 windows moving at the same time) than the GPS will ever draw. ...

Re: Brake problem

My guess is that the master cylinder is going bad.

To test:

With the engine running, push the brake pedal very easy. When you feel some resistance, wiggle the pedal up and down, again,...

Re: 94 SL2 HCE Auto: surge while cruising at speed

Actually, I've learned from my scanner, that when the accelerator is closed, EGR is shut off, and the EGR valve is closed. Admittedly, I'm not sure if that is only while the car is stopped, or also...

Re: Hit deer, driver side mirror broke off, wire harness torn off

There are wire "tangs" on the metal pins that hold the pin in the plastic connector. Chances are that those tangs are either bent backward, or broken off completely.

You'll need to bend them...

Re: 1993 SL2 instrument cluster electronic components

Tonight, I finally replaced my instrument cluster.

While swapping the original functional odometer to the replacement cluster, the BIGGEST problem was making all the light bulbs work. Oxidation...

Re: 94 SL2 HCE Auto: surge while cruising at speed

I've been fiddling with this for over a month now. The VSS is fine, and the VSS signal from the ECM is fine. My cruise control works just fine, thus the VSS is putting out a good signal too.

Re: Trying to figure out if aftermarket motor mounts still suck in 2021

My car recently started to vibrate pretty badly at idle. So I started a search for a new upper motor mount.

I found a DEA brand mount that is an FIRST VERSION mount and it is a current product. ...

Re: 1993 SL2 instrument cluster electronic components

Since my last time replying to this post, I have begun to have problems with my speedometer too.

When I first start the car cold, the speedo works just fine. But after about 4 miles driving (or 5...

Re: S series junkyard autopsies/who says small cars are unsafe?

Don't forget guys that these cars are not worth their repair costs when it comes to mechanicals.

A transmission rebuild for the "normal" man on the street is nearly $2000, and if the car is worn...

Re: 94 SL2 HCE Auto: surge while cruising at speed

The fact that my chugging doesn't start until the engine warms up and the vehicle reaches a constant speed for an extended time falls in line with the testing the computer does to check the EGR...

Wrench Re: 94 SL2 HCE Auto: surge while cruising at speed

I drove into the city today, so I got the chance along that trip to unplug the EGR once the engine warmed up.

You are right. When I unplugged the EGR vacuum supply, all the bucking and chugging...

Re: 94 SL2 HCE Auto: surge while cruising at speed

I didn't think about the EGR valve! I will unplug it once I've driven the car awhile and the chug starts (I don't remember it chugging while it's cold). This will tell me if the chug stops!

I...

Wrench 94 SL2 HCE Auto: surge while cruising at speed

My '94 SL2 has started chugging at constant velocity.

It accelerates fine, and it decelerates fine.

It drives fine until I reach my cruise speed and let off the accelerator pedal to just...

Re: 1998 sc2 header

Wow, I just looked up that Maximizer Tri-Y.

It's nearly $400 plus $50 for shipping!

I couldn't justify that kind of money on a nearly 30 year old car.

Plus, at that price it would have...

Does anyone have any seat-of-the-pants experience with replacing the original cast iron manifold with an actual header from the early cars?

Did it make any difference in performance "feel"? Does...

About 4-6 weeks ago, I replaced my radiator after the original cracked the plastic tank near the upper transmission cooler line.

I shopped ebay, and found an all aluminum radiator for sale from a...
