Re: valve body question

That's the first case of that I've seen. When you say "rebuilt one", did you mean you got one from a junkyard? The valve body problem is so frequent that most of them have substantial leakage...

Re: Adding power locks?

I did search, but most of the discussions use the factory mechanism (some from a junkyard), not the universal power door lock kit I referred to in my first post. I was hoping someone could chime in...

Re: Adding power locks?

I heard that the window itself would be hard, but I only want to lock/unlock the doors, not the windows.

Re: Adding power locks?

Honest, it really has. Of course, I've had it since '98 so that's (on average) once every two years.

Adding power locks?

I have a '95 Saturn SL2 that has now been stolen and recovered four times. I have since installed a complete alarm system, which works GREAT. Engine cutoff, door detection, all that good stuff. ...

Re: Seat and Carpet Cleaning ideas

1/2 day to replace the carpet, assuming you already have a factory-moulded carpet available for replacement.

Re: Replacing The Lower Tranmission Mount

I shortened the bolt using a bench grinder until it would fit.

Re: Manual to automatic transmission

One idea might be to find someone who wants a five speed to swap with. Where in California are you?

Re: Help! My transmission side cover broke!

See this thread: http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68545&page=2

Just today, someone bent the rod because they didn't do a half-axle job.

Re: Help! My transmission side cover broke!

IMPORTANT:

You MUST do a half-axle job to get that cover off properly!

There are two rods (long ones) that go into the transmission as part of the cover.

DO NOT REMOVE THE TWO CENTER...

Re: Po734

I have seen two cases of this. One where the guy said he used a vice to straighten the tube and was able to get the transmission working again (haven't heard back if it stayed working). The second...

Re: 1996 sl2 tranny suddenly banging

$300 for labor, parts, or both?

This is very interesting to me because I have been told (repeatedly, and by several dealers) that Saturn dealers never replace parts of the valve body.

Re: 1996 sl2 tranny suddenly banging

What does replacing the line pressure regulator mean? The line pressure regulator has several components. Maybe they replaced the whole valve or perhaps just the spring (which seems to break a...

Re: Po734

No. Most dealers will only sell a whole new valve body, not the individual parts. Some exceptional dealers can order some of the parts needed.

Some items, like the pressure spring, are available...

Re: coming up on 100,000 miles...

Good time to change to Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF. Stick with dyno in the engine though.

Pay extra attention to the cooling system. The water pump seems to be the next thing to break after 100k. You...

Re: Po734

Wolf is right: check the 4th gear solenoid fuse. I haven't tried it or seen it (although I might) but if the fuse is blown, it will act really weird when it tries to engage 4th gear! If the fuse is...

Re: Po734

Hmm

If he wasn't holding the wrench correctly, it would be hard to get the 111 ft-lbs you need to tighten the nut.

You CANNOT loosen and retighten the input shaft nut. I'd ignore anything that...

Re: Anyone familiar with the throttle body of the A/T on a '95 SL2?

If you insist on putting a hole in the valve body cover, then you're going to have to remove the cover anyway (at least I HOPE you do... little bits of metal are not a good idea inside the...

Re: Po734

Oddly enough, I've pulled two valve bodies from the junkyard. Each time, the valve body was, well, junk. The tension spring in the pressure valve was broken in the first one, and the tension valve...

Re: SL2 brakes (pedal goes to floor, etc)

You just bleed the brake lines.

If you do NOT have ABS, go buy a cheap bleeder kit at your local auto parts store. They usually have instructions.

IF you have ABS, forget it, take it to a...

Re: SL2 brakes (pedal goes to floor, etc)

The test mentioned earlier is pretty important: if you turn off the engine, pump the petal 2 or 3 times, and then HOLD something like 20 pounds of pressure for one minute (you won't move the petal...

Either the air cleaner housing or the fuse box are the only things that come to mind in that area. Which direction from the strut?

Re: Po734

SES codes can definitely be more than emissions. The speed sensor can definitely trigger a code.

Of the dozen or so valve bodies I've rebuilt, I haven't yet had to go back and tear it down again....
