Re: Dexcool

Saturn's all used green coolant until later in production when they switched to Dexcool. The first 500 or so 1991 Saturn's were filled with the wrong formula antifreeze by Texaco and they were...

Re: Dexcool

But, the whole appeal with Dexcool was no required change for 150K mile or 10 years. I'm not saying that's right or anything but why should you change it regularly if it is advertised by the vehicle...

Re: I should not have...

That's strange, I was just thinking how often I beat on my poor Saturn when someone really pisses me off in traffic, etc...

It's okay, we all get angry sometimes; myself a lot more than others...

Re: Dexcool

I too am against Dexcool, good on paper, not so much in reality. It doesn't play well with other coolant types and it hates air. How do I know? I'm one of the many Chevy S-Series/Blazer/Bravada...

Re: stumped

Clean the EGR valve; my car does the same thing. Around 1700RPM the EGR is supposed to open but it gets full of carbon and hangs up or doesn't open/close fast enough so you get that chugging you're...

Re: Wiper motor swap.....what years will interchange?

Mine went bad when an ill staffed windshield replacement company got a hold of my car, their tech. must have done something to it because after the new windshield my pass. side wiper didn't work...

Re: Wiper motor swap.....what years will interchange?

I had to swap the motor on my 94'. What happens most times is that the wiper arms themselves strip out the splines where they attach to the wiper transmission. 13mm bolts hold the wiper arms on, once...

Re: Secrets to keeping your Saturn looking good after 375,000 miles ( car detailing )

The engine bay is the most impressive, especially at 375K:cool:

I see the rear door sills were rusting out, I have seen 1-2 out of probably 75-100 4 doors that weren't rusted out there, gotta'...

Re: Headliner upholstery adhesive

I used the Permatex in the orange 16.9Oz. can and I used the whole can on my coupe, which has a sunroof and a generally tiny headliner. I would use at least 2 cans on an SL because it's not fun (or...

Re: Hard to start...

The light has multiple functions on the Gen 1 cars too. If you unplug the ECTS the coolant light and fan will come on as a failsafe.

Re: Hard to start...

I once made the mistake of trying to use a SENDER as a SENSOR (when I was a total Saturn noob  and OldNuc set me straight :D)

They look IDENTICAL (the same as the first pic from hit_n_run)...

Re: Recommended oil filter ??

I was curious if anyone has ever used MANN filters http://www.mann-hummel.com/mfus/index.html?iKeys=30.1.368.2.1. I hadn't even heard of them until one of our local parts stores listed them on their...

Re: Hard to start...

It is possible for a brass ECTS to go bad, but it is extremely rare. I had one in my toolbox for a while that was bad. If you measured the resistance it would show an open circuit, may be something...

Re: Vibrations

By any chance did you loosen the lower engine dogbone mount when you replaced the top motor mount? This can cause the car to have some funky vibrations even after the top mount is replaced.

EDIT:...

Re: Automatic Seatbelts

If both of them have gone out check for a common link between them, I don't recall if they both draw power from the same fuse or not.

You could also take off the center console and check the...

Re: SL1 vs SL2 Comparisons

I don't find either engine particularly bad as long as it has a 5-spd. transmission backing it up. I don't have any experience driving a Saturn with an auto (it has been programmed into my brain to...

Re: Craigslist find

The underpinnings of the car are still made out of steel. If you're from the rust-belt like many of the members (including myself) on this board you should be well aware that they can, and do, rust....

Re: bucking?

That range is around when the EGR valve opens, my car has the same bucking or chugging motion at the same RPM's. I have cleaned the EGR valve but I think the valve itself is bad, I'm just too cheap...

Re: Instrument panel lighting

Not too difficult, only 2 bolts (7 or 8mm) holding the dash on and some snap type metal clips take the dash top off and you should be able to access the lights. As PurdueGuy mentioned you must twist...

There is a plug, you will notice it as the bolt head doesn't look like any of the other ones holding the transmission together, its also at the lowest point on the trans. Some users have replaced...

Re: To sell or not to sell?

The engineers who design the WP's to be run off the timing CHAIN need to be shot IMHO (coming from someone aspiring for a BS :D in ME). I understand it may help with simplicity a bit and free up some...

Please, be safe and spend $10-15 on the new rubber line. Do you want to risk your brakes failing and losing control/crashing over $5? Buy a new line, install it with a new copper crush washer, spend...

Re: s-series and the broken odometer syndrome?

Mine is still working, just like my pop-up headlights, automatic seat belts, sunroof, power windows and locks, and cruise control (knock on wood) 182.5K miles. The trip odometer is a little "notchy"...

Hah, that is probably the same guy from around here who was posting a Ford Probe this summer. A few neons and some Type-R floor mats, seat belt cushions, and seat covers and that Probe was pushing...
