Re: What is your average MPG this year?

I downloaded an app for my iphone about 6 months ago.

Since then my average is 28 MPG city. SL2 Auto.

I'm spoiled by my gas bill since I bought this thing 4 years ago, and I foresee never daily...

Re: AC noise

I found a big piece to this puzzle. I noticed late yesterday that the cooling fan wasn't working. Since I noted this, I've been shutting off the compressor every time I roll to a stop. Noise is...

AC noise

All new AC and I need help deciding what's not working right.

First, it's blowing ice cold...never been better.

I replaced it all and did the right stuff: compressor, dryer, expansion valve,...

Re: Reverse Slam going out of Reverse?

I can't say that it's "normal", but mine's been doing this for the 16k miles I've owned the car. I'm curious of the responses.

Re: Help with broken rod please!

I agree. Plus whatever caused 1 rod to break will likely cause others to fail as well.

Re: Fuel Pump Replacement as Prevenative Maintenance?

No way. That would be like replacing an alternator just because it's old. If the fuel pump fails, it will not harm any other parts so there's no point in taking a preventative measure.

Re: AC always on with cabin fan/intake gasket/thermostat

I'm not 100% certain if the S does this (beacuse it has a separate "AC" button), but most cars run the AC compressor in defrost mode regardless of temp setting because the byproduct of cooling is to...

Re: How to store an AC compressor

So let me get this straight.
You grabbed the Ac compressor from your ex's car before you split? Do you strip other non-essential parts like window motors, arm rests, floor mats, spare tire,...

Re: Anyone using Methanol injection?

I agree with what's been stated.
I've used it on my Turbocharged Buick as a charge cooling mechanism with amazing results, but for a normally aspirated car it is of little or no use.

Re: Is resonator necessary?

I welded in a straight pipe that was sitting in the garage.
It is a bit louder, but not louder inside the car with the AC on (I live in the swamp and run AC 9 months out of the year)
Over 3k rpms...

Re: 15,000 mile oil change

If you drive average miles, you can change your oil normally for about 60 dollars per year. Is the experiment with "new oils" worth it to you? In the overall scheme of things, oils changes are very...

Re: strange shifting

Wait. I just read your op again.
You were coasting downhill at ~ 35
car downshifted
then the car upshifted back to level it was
?

that doesn't sound like iac now that I think more.

Re: strange shifting

When you did the tranny swap, did you swap valve bodies so you reinstalled the previous valve body or did you just swap the complete transmission? Did that sentence make sense? :dizzy:

My theory...

Re: A/C Compressor Question: Is my compressor bad?

Basically speaking, a combination of 2 things makes pressure: The pump (compressor), and the oriface tube (or expansion valve). One of the 2 is faulty.

BTW, I wouldn't vacuum again just to check...

Re: strange shifting

I bet there's a video by richpin (sp?) on youtube, and/or instructions in the how-to section. In fact I'm certain I watched the video before I did it.

The IAC is the Idle Air Controller. It's a...

Re: 1999 SW1 sounds like a belt making noise

Are you sure it's the right size belt?

Your description makes it sound like the belt is stretching (normal) after wear ( a few months)and heat(30 minutes) and the tensioner is at it's limit....

Re: strange shifting

If you replaced the entire transmission, then I think you can rule out the transmission as the cause.

Maybe the IAC is sticky/faulty. Mine had the opposite problem once in a while - it wouldn't...

Re: Where to buy good rotors

I haven't had them on the Saturn long enough to report nor did I look for their origin, but I've been happy with NAPA rotors and pads in the past.
I have reached a point where I don't skimp on brake...

Re: Shifter? Clutch? Something else?

When you say "it moves", do you mean it moves as if you slightly release the clutch? Or it rolls in gear when the car isn't running?

If it's the first case, you definately need clutch...

Re: Please help!!!!

Do as stated by others regarding the ECTS, but now I think you have a secondary problem. When you turn on the AC, does it actually come on..compressor kick in?

Oh, and is it actually overheating?...

Re: misc. maintenance

IMO, the cost of a PCV valve and trans filter from the dealer is not bad and is insignificant in the overall sceme of things even if they charge a little more. What are they $10, and $15...and you...
