Re: AC compressor, DCV11A to DCV14G swapout possible ?

Thanks for the quick response.

I think you are referring to the thread that I referenced inline, and yes, I didn’t see any conclusion reached for line-to-compressor compatibility.

I...

AC compressor, DCV11A to DCV14G swapout possible ?

Hey folks, DCV11A’s seem to have become ‘unobtainium’. We need to talk about AC compressor interchangeability and what, if any creativity may be needed.

Background:
* My 96 SW2 DCV11A ( center...

Re: RKE module failure ?

Solved. Apparently some of these aftermarket remotes have a weird failure mode. They retain their ability to “pair”, but they stop sending correct authentication data. I only figured it out by...

Re: RKE module failure ?

Thanks for the inputs and the service manual info on my RKE problem. I just got to the module and confirmed that 12V batt, 12V ignition, and ground are all good. My next step was to swap it out...

RKE module failure ?

I am an original s-series owner and a longtime fan of this forum looking for some help. I have a weird remote keyless entry problem, and I haven't found any similar postings.

Both remotes...

Re: 3rd Gear Synchro 96 SW2 MP3 bad

Thanks for the input guys and apologies for having to go silent right after posting. Some unplanned bodywork was needed …. and I'm am not talking about the car.

I don't think this problem is...

Re: 3rd Gear Synchro 96 SW2 MP3 bad

Scratch that question above about manual trans disassembly. Newer-model yard trans can still be had that have reasonable mileage, and synchros are somewhere north of $250.

The remaining...

Wrench 3rd Gear Synchro 96 SW2 MP3 bad

Hi all, It must be "Saturn MT Week" on the forum. My issue is gear-grinding and M_Metzgers has a hard-shifting issue.

I’m looking for suggestions for dealing with a failed 3rd gear synchro on my...

Re: 97 SL2 5 speed tranny help

I agree with OldNuc. Get one from a yard and put your energy into changing its seals and diff pin. The only thing I recommend before you commit to trans swap is confirming that your engine cradle...

Re: 97 SL2 5 speed tranny help

I looked into yard replacement trans when I thought my 96 had failed. I found one local for just $150. They go for about 3x that online with shipping, and I see other posts where they used to be...

Re: Lock cylinder

Correction ... it was apparently a 5.5mm socket that I modified to replace a 96 S-series ignition lock.

Re: Lock cylinder

I replaced the lock cylinder in my 96 SW2 when it became difficult to turn without jiggling back and forth. It was not nearly as difficult as I had imagined. The only 'trick' is finding a 1/4" 7mm...

Re: S-Series Manual transmission lost all gears

With new clutch and trans seal, our 96 SW2 drives better at 144K than it has in years. The clutch chatter is gone and it shifts smoothly.

Repair was a two weekend job, but I addressed more...

Re: S-Series Manual transmission lost all gears

Got it thanks. I just had to hold the pin carefully with vice grips to get started. From there it went in nicely with a punch.

Re: S-Series Manual transmission lost all gears

I am having some trouble getting M4 pin into the diff carrier.

Measuring with index drill set shows the M4 being in the recommended range...

Re: S-Series Manual transmission lost all gears

Thanks for the mcmaster links. That was the final piece I needed.

I was hoping it only needed clutch RobertGary ... no such luck.

Will post back with progress.

Re: S-Series Manual transmission lost all gears

That approach makes a lot of sense to me ... thanks.

I'd like to have the roll-pin so that I can...

Re: S-Series Manual transmission lost all gears

Well, I pulled my SW2 apart and found that the clutch disk absolutely exploded. I could only find a few small 2" shards. All else was turned to dust and shavings. There was absolutely no friction...

Re: Need help. Catalytic/exhaust

You are on the right track IMO. I bought W*lker with separate downpipe and cat using their parts-selector ... figuring that downpipe would fail before cat. Despite using all clamps per W*lker, the...

Re: Brake line replacement and master cylinder

BTW, if you are planning to bend and flare your own lines, consider using NiCopp instead of steel. NiCopp is more expensive than steel, but much easier to work with and does not corrode. When you...

Re: S-Series Manual transmission lost all gears

Yeah, I realized about the same time as you posted that welding diff pin is a really bad notion. I will replace pin if the trans comes out .... thanks for keeping me honest.

And yeah I should...

Re: S-Series Manual transmission lost all gears

I was going to ask about machining vs replacing flywheel. The link you provided includes flywheel and sounds perfect.

First follow-up question: Terminology again ... does 'front seal" refer to...

Re: S-Series Manual transmission lost all gears

I pulled the transmission control assembly and found it is in working fine. The lower post has a bit of wobble, but that is not the issue.

I am able to change gears with the transmission control...
