Re: Best tires?

Definitely over the top cost wise but this was my daily driver for 15 years. BFG Comp 2 205/50 16's make the car almost as fun to drive as the Cooper S.

Re: air filter recommendations?

On my SL2 I have the Injen CAI system, honestly probably more psychological than an actual big bump in power though I do also have the SPS cat back exhaust. Also probably something long out of...

Re: 2002 SL Runs for a second the dies

So you turn the key and the car starts briefly then shuts off?

This sounds a lot like the problem I had with my 2000 SL2 a long time ago. It was the antitheft system kicking in. Itís a fault in...

Re: Another Saturn Smog fail!

Just skimmed this thread for the first time sorry if I'm about to repeat something..

We had a similar challenge with one of our 99 SL2's and the Ontario Drive Clean. It kept failing until we...

Re: Clunks on every little bumps

The other thing you might want to check is your muffler clamp. The one's on our 99 SL1 and SL2 have a habit of rotting away and causing clunking sounds when you hit bumps.

Re: Second S-series

Would depend on the price.

Also check the door sills for rust as this is an area that does rot out even though the vertical body panels are plastic.

Smokes a bit makes me nervous, if it's a...

Re: Prefered Engine: SOHC or DOHC

Hmm I guess if fuel economy is your goal then the SOHC is your motor.

We have 2 DOHC's and a SOHC, I don't find the SOHC that dreadful performance wise but then if I want a speed fix which seems...

Re: why are the un-painted bumpers so ugly?

Cost was probably a factor. I guess you could always paint your car black...

I actually don't mind the black on our gold SL1, as a daily driver it shows a lot less scrapes and scuffs than the...

Re: Electric Tricks

Hmm this feels like a battery cable or main wiring harness problem or perhaps a ground connection that is corroded and the shift in weight during a stop is just enough to break the connection.

Is...

Re: Looking at a '99 SC2 to buy

If it's a rear main you'll probably have to pull the engine. I might wait until you need to do the clutch if this is just a sweat. Is this the type of work you can do your self?

$2500 sounds about...

Re: How To...Remove Radio from 97 SW2

Yup you got it. Factory to factory swaps are pretty easy. Only tricks with a swap to aftermarket are to buy a Metra mounting kit and get an adaptor for the antenna as the stock GM plug is slightly...

Re: His Civic got a better sound than my Saturn!

Hearing the exhaust, know what the intake sounds like. Injen is metal with a K&N cone. I get the popping when lifting off the gas as well. But definately the Thermal. It does turn heads but sometimes...

Re: 2000 SL1 OBDII Codes P0404 & P0442 110k miles

I think I would track down the P0442 code first as the P0404 might be the result of the first code.

The EGR is located on the top right side just beside the cam cover and under the snorkel for...

Re: His Civic got a better sound than my Saturn!

Sound is a relative thing, I run an Injen WAI with Thermal RD cat back on my SL2. I find it too loud, so much so that I've been looking into better insulation for the trunk. As a result of the louder...

Yes specifically the Thrush Woodpecker! Than add a pair of fuzzy dice hanging from the mirror and capped off with dago balls.

Re: 99 saturn sl2........ 15MPG!!!!!!

Hmm Saturns do have a tendency to use oil but I think that can be cured depending on how much work you are able to do as the dealer route is brutally expensive.

White puffs sound like coolant...

Re: Power window problem

Hi, if you discover that the gears are ok check your switch as they tend to carbon up and give you intermittant operation.

Re: Which Air filter do you use?

Good points, we do run K&N's on all our cars and I've run them since 86 on my Turbo T-Bird. But without taking a motor apart we were always a little curious as to what if anything was sneeking...

Re: Synthetic oil users - How long do you go?

Last poster makes a good point, depends really on your driving patterns. I put 100 km round trip on the highway each day on my SL2 and have been changing my oil every 5,500 km which I think is around...

Re: Which SL2 do I keep?

Personally I would keep the 5spd as it should get better gas mileage and have better acceleration. Probably keep the aluminum wheels though if the 5spd has steelies.

I think performance is a...

Re: Failing e-tests with high NO readings

Just a followup.

We did our 4th etest today, before they ran the test they did a diagnostic and said that our front O2 sensor was bad. So we let them replace it and we passed. I had also replaced...

Re: Canadian ECTS

Thanks for the reply.

Good luck with the Parts Source part. I've had mixed success buying mail order from these guys in Hamilton Ontario if you are interested. Parts up here at the Saturn dealer...

Re: Failing e-tests with high NO readings

Heh heh, we might have to move further north where they don't have to do etests!

I have a scantool, no codes and the SES light is good.

We took the car back to the test facility this morning...

Re: Canadian ECTS

Hi 94sl2guy,

When you pulled out your ECTS did you see a lot of scale build up on it from the stop leak that GM puts in when they build our Saturns?

Reason I ask is we are trying to figure out...

Re: Rare Opportunity..should I go for it?

Couple of thoughts, join AAA we get free tows depending on distance. Although if the car is not plated they may not honor this as CAA will only give you a free tow if the car has current plates.
