Re: Transmission fluid question beat to death

Nope. No idea just how compatible they may be. Probably not a huge task to run the info down though. Almost all auto trans manufacturers are specifying a thinner fluid now for all their transmissions...

Re: Transmission fluid question beat to death

Actually Transynd HD is a dex-3 compatible fluid. now exceeds the TS-295 test requirements. New package and label. I still prefer the Amsoil product as they do not fiddle with the formulation every 6...

Re: Transmission fluid question beat to death

J N Winkler

There is an Amsoil distribution center in Wichita and you can buy it direct there with no shipping.

It does look like shipping policy has been changed.

Re: Transmission fluid question beat to death

Dexron VI meets the TS-295 spec but is DOES NOT meet the old Dexron III viscosity specification, it is too thin. Dex VI will function OK for a while but eventually you will find that all the adaptive...

Re: Transmission fluid question beat to death

The 30,000 mile sample is to confirm that the fluid is indeed in spec and clean. At that point you can assume it will last the life of the car. Before changing fluid replace the valve body and the...

The service manual and a TSB direct tossing that magnet after the initial 30,000 miles.

Re: Transmission fluid question beat to death

For long run the WIX is your best bet and Taiwan parts are better than most Chinese but as this is a generalization there will be exceptions.

Re: Transmission fluid question beat to death

All you need is sufficient shifting through all gears to thoroughly mix the fluids. That could be a short as an hour driving around the block as long as you get into 4th and reverse several times....

Re: Transmission fluid question beat to death

Seal compatible ATF is not hard to find and will probably always be available as it is a common industrial hydraulic fluid for very expensive industrial equipment.

Do not hang your hat on some...

Re: Transmission fluid question beat to death

Amsoil runs long term use tests followed by complete teardowns to examine internal parts. The one they ran for Torque-Drive was in a fleet of garbage trucks. For those that have never noticed the...

Re: Transmission fluid question beat to death

If you go to the GMC dealer you will think the Amsoil price is a real bargain. Any of these are close to $50.00/gallon. Most large truck stops that do any repairs/fluid changes have the Transynd on...

Re: Transmission fluid question beat to death

The string of posts linked clearly state that Torque-Drive and Transynd among others are OK with Allison transmissions and if so then they are seal compatible. The entire inner story is in that...

Re: Transmission fluid question beat to death

The pressure is calculated based on viscosity and temperature. There is no real pressure sensor so the PCM must adapt to thin or thick fluid at any given temperature. Seal compatibility would be a...

Re: Transmission fluid question beat to death

The viscosity was more or less identical to Dex-3, the original one. The Dex-3H that all of the universal Dexron/Mercon ATFs has a slightly lower initial viscosity, not significantly lower though....

Re: Transmission fluid question beat to death

Instead of guessing why not take a look at the shear stability and 4 ball wear test results of Torque-Drive or Transynd?

The diff pin issue has been well documented and there are several fixes...

Re: Transmission fluid question beat to death

This is why I tell you to use Torque-Drive or Transynd. It is also why I think either of those fluids are lifetime fluids after your fluid id changed twice on a short cycle. Then filter changes only...

Re: Transmission fluid question beat to death

Both the Torque-Drive and Transynd are superior to the Transmax. It is not the highest viscosity it is stable viscosity and a high viscosity index that are the objectives to look for in a Dexron type...
