Maxi Fuses…

Maxi fuses are becoming harder and harder to find.

I suggest you keep a spare or two in the glove box…

50 amp

30 amp

Re: Maxi Fuses…
People buy those? What a waste of money, though it is hard to argue with $0.90 for one.

Almost every parts car I had I stripped it for the fuse's along with other easy to reuse/repurpose parts before scrapping. All the Fords and GM's I've worked on use them as well so I assume they're still "littering" junkyards across the country. Trucks in general, 3/4t's specifically, tend to have the higher rated fuses and more of them.

I have a pretty fair collection of em - just in the parts cars out behind the barn...

Re: Maxi Fuses…

Just one more thing I forgot to pick up when I was at the wrecking yard last week.

Odd thing is, I just had to replace the 10 Amp fuse that powers my Hazard Flashers and Bright Lights Indicator. And I had to dig around for a fuse for it! Luckily there was a spare in the underhood fuse block. I have no idea what blew that fuse or when it actually blew (within the last 3-4 days).

Re: Maxi Fuses…
Do our S-Series Saturns use that 50MAX fuse? According to they are not listed when I search for parts that fit my 97 wagon.

I was going to purchase 4 fuses but it was going to cost $6.99 to ship them.

Re: Maxi Fuses…
Note sure the first and second gen cars used the 50...

Another kit to get is the Busmann Easy ID kit,
has seven each of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 amp light up fuses..

Note that there are spare ATC fuses in the fusebox, but not Maxi's

Re: Maxi Fuses…
On my 1965 (air-cooled) VW -- 6-volt system -- I found it saved time
if I removed All the fuses (only ~10) once a year, and carefully cleaned those connections ... and also the light sockets at the rear.

My 1982 VW rabbit never blew a fuse.
I don't recall any of my Chevy pickups blowing a fuse.
My '97SW Saturn only blew one fuse ... after a very close range
lightning bolt, which disabled the ignition via the security system, the following day.

I am very impressed with the reliability of the Saturn electric system,
with possible exception of the gen-2 IgSw.
