Starter Change Causes Speedometer Fail???

I just changed my starter in a '97 SL2 and when I drove it the speedometer was completely gone. Also noticed it would cut out at high RPM's in 1st and 2nd gears. (If I wrapped it out in higher gears it would do it also)

Today on my way to work I got my speedometer back for about 5 minutes but then it wen away again. The car seems to run smooth now.

Pretty sure something happened when I was battling the starter as there was no problem until the starter repair. Any help? Please don't tell be I have to take out the starter again! That wasn't fun!

You probably disconnected the VSS. It is located on top of the transaxle right above the axle shafts, straight up. Things will not run right with that signal disconnected.
