Re: Saturn Craigslist Deal of the Day!
$5-800 was my exact thoughts as well. $800 if its truly in great shape.
I respectfully disagree.

In our market, $500-$800 gets you a non-runner. This one has electrical problems and more than 225K miles, asking $800...
http://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/2493537432.html

This one has either a blown head gasket or a cracked head, asking $1000...
http://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/2487590622.html

This one had a blown head gasket or cracked head and they drove it until it seized, asking $450...
http://columbus.craigslist.org/pts/2452844409.html

I think a good-running, good-looking SL2 with service history, cold air, and only 87K miles on it is worth $2000-$2300, even if it is almost 20 years old. I could get another eight years and 100K out of that car - maybe more - and I bet all I'd have to fix during that time is the radiator+water pump and alternator.

I've bought several sub $500 S-Series Saturns. Many are still on the road. And its been about three years since I purchased my last S-Series. I bought a 1993 SW2 in 2002 for $500 and it in my driveway right now. My father drives it every day. Bought a 1994 SL2 in 2004 for $500. My grandfather drove it for a couple years, then my brother and now my son's mother has it. I picked up a 2001 SC2 two years ago for $1700 and a 1999 SC2 in 2005 for $1000. Those are still driven as well and in great shape.

If you really would pay $2000-$2300 for a S-Series that age in good shape. I have some $$$ to make off of you.

Also all the links you posted dont really mean anything. Just because they're asking that amount, it doesnt mean they'll get it.

You can disagree all you want, I am talking about different markets. Over here, its not what its worth, period. There is no disagreeing, just check classifieds in other areas like mine.. They are worth less here, period.

I typed "Saturn SL" on Kijiji for Ontario and this was easily spotted on the first page.

http://ontario.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-cars-trucks-1997-Saturn-SL1-S-Series-Sedan-W0QQAdIdZ297700464

185K KMs is about 110K miles or so...

OK, you guys win. A good deal on an S-series in the Midwest apparently isn't a good deal elsewhere.

I would if I didn't already have a good S-series. Most of the 1st-gens around here suffer from frame rust, and I'm guessing the one you'd sell me doesn't.

Same here.
You can find the odd good one, (I found an immaculate subframe for my wagon) but most have a good amount of rot going on.

I was lucky enough to find this under a 2001 SL2 at a wreckers about 40 mins from where I live. I couldn't believe the condition (zero rust, not even a spec) and I do live in the SW Ontario rust belt. No clue where this baby came from!

yeah really, and most of the first gens here in northern KY seem to sound like rice rockets, diesels, lawn mowers, etc.. :hmm:

and how is it that places like Ontario and Cali-land where a running S-series goes for a few Franklins? is it due to all the heavy emissions, Saturns being worst on resale, or...?

as for that one asking for ten Franklins for a blown head (gasket?), I'd kindly offer them half of that.

Yeah. Around here rust is a color, not a condition of metal.

One owner 3 door SC2. At 183k miles thats a bit higher than I would prefer, but for $1200 if he can provide good maint. records I'd go for it!

But what is the thing right above the ignition? Look like there is a wire running toward the driver's door from it.

if by motor they mean engine, that should be a boneheaded find, dude. :|

you can find a half-decent runner for $1,000. I would personally ask for anywhere between 1/4 and 1/2 of that price.

I'd also like to know why the engine failed at 69,000 miles, though.

I also wonder how a motor dies at 69000 miles.... and what exactly is that wire around dudes igniton? But I wonder why hes selling that 3rd gen SC, thats super cheap IMHO but it looks like maybe he just bought it himself?

Here's a beauty! White 95 SW2 MT with 34,575 miles ....

http://cgi.ebay.ca/Saturn-S-Series-/120750871820?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item1c1d50150c#ht_500wt_1156

This is a recently traded 1995 Saturn Wagon. One-owner, old-timer, with very low mileage. Color is white with a gray interior that shows hardly any wear. It has the 1.9 overhead cam engine that gets great mileage. Especially with the 5-speed manual transmission. The car runs perfect. A/C is ice cold. Tires are excellent. Goes down the road like a new one. A few scratches on rear bumper from use and a small rust spot in the left rear-door opening, as shown in picture. Very easy fix. If your looking for an economical, dependable vehicle this one would be hard to beat for the price! Any additional info call KEN @ KEN'S AUTO 304-547-1188. Located 1-mile off I-70 near Wheeling, WV. Pittsburgh Airport pickup available $75.
