What's the trick for getting the headliner out of the car?

I've got the headliner dropped (96 SL2) and can't figure out how to get it out of the car. Does it have to be bent? Won't it crack? All plastic is out, dash panel off, seatbelts unbolted, seats are reclined, trim rubber off the passenger door. I dropped it, slid it toward the back of the car, then angled toward the pass front as I was moving it forward. I can't see how it comes out??? And then once new and fresh, to go back in?

I've just finished the headliner in my '98 and it's not really difficult. The trick that worked for me was to recline both front seats as far as possible and take it out the rear door, it will have to be bent some but if you're careful it won't break.

I reclined my two front seats then pointed the headliner down, toward the shift lever then slipped it out the passenger side, front door.

A couple hour break for dinner, a fresh perspective and the goal of "down toward the shifter" did the trick. Thanks!
