Default Saturn Guy Vs Honda Guy

So I live in an army barracks. One of the guys in my building drives get this a Honda Integra Type R. Just to make sure you know we are in the states. This car he says is an ITR is actually a rebadged RSX. So were talkin cause I thought his car was something its not and I thought it was pretty for a Honduh. He told me he has plans of getting of his "ITR" up to 770 whp. So I told that my saturn is gonna be able to do 330 one day. Yes I have big plans. Of course I doubt I can get it to 330 but i have heard of it being done. He says his car weighs less than 2000 lbs and i think i can get my saturn down to about 2200. So he has a two door hatchback weighing less than 2000 and I have a 4 door that will weigh about 2200. I tell I really beleive that my car could beat him on a 1/8 mile and a roundtrack. So then he goes to ask me why I wont take him on 1/4 mile and I tell your engine is built for high rpm driving and will natrually do better on a long straightaway. Next off I'm not sure I'd wanna even race you on a drapstrip because 1 3,500 rpm launch and your 770 HP is gonna tear your poor little car to shreds. So laughs and starts on about how saturns are the worst cars you can buy there basically disposable cars blah blah blah. Well I say yes you do have to check your damn oil change an etcs and weld a diff pin but really these are some character traits that might need to be corrected but its a very reliable safe and fun to drive car.

My points
How often does saturn Do things like win SCCA and Set world land speed records?
Isnt saturn extremley safe? (my mom flipped her s-series and landed on the roof and walked away with only a minor concussion)
Doesn't saturn have good reveiws?

His Points
He drives a car that doesnt really exist. WELL DOH
770 WHP Is way to much for a little car like the RSX. If it had a proportional increase in torque it would ripped apart.

Honda Integra is real. What year is the thing? If its a 2000+, is probably just an acura rsx (honda integra in japan) rebadged by the guy. if its older, it maybe an Acura integra type R ( which was sold in the states), with a JDM honda front end swap and new badges. Its hard to say. Got any pictures?

Here is the JDM Honda Integra Type R

compared to the USDM Acura integra type R

It is real sorta.... This thin is just a rsx that has been rebadge and he is trying to a full over conversion. It is a nice car but it isn't a saturn so . Also he was wrong in every staement he made about our car. Which leads me to beleive he is just a honda ricer. He says he is doing a crossover but some of the things you cant really convert.

most everything should be able to be swapped over.

I have a friend with a civic hatch with an h22 motor and tranny out of a prelude and a boat load of other mods. He even converted it to right hand drive. With money and some mechanical skills and intuition anything can be done. Just like the crx dx model he had with a civic SI motor swap, the roof was cut and swapped with an crx si roof (only the crx si's had sunroof).

just do what you gotta do with th satty and have fun with it. Dont let anyone else interfere with that.

unless he did some serious weight reduction, a Honda Integra is not going to be less than 2000 lbs. The Integra and RSX were around 2600-2700 lbs stock. You can get your 2400 lbs Saturn closer to 2200 lbs by removing the spare tire and jack and floor mats. my 1996 SC2 was just under 2300 lbs with a 1/4 tank of fuel, the spare tire, jack, floor mats removed and the glove box and arm rest were empty. 770 hp and 330 hp is wishful thinking

He admitted that it isnt a ITR. He told me rebadged it after I asked him. I'm just saying this guy has very little clue what he is doing/ talkin about. I however before I did mod 1 checked out to see if was worth it. SPS was the second website i found this one was third or fourth but needless to say what he is doing is just something he thinks is cool because he was probably stationed somewhere where they sold the type r and said hey i'ma make honda a type r.

My main beef is just that he is trying to pass of his RSX as a type r honda. Then he starts telling me he can get 770 and that saturns are thowaway cars.

I have seen A< A single dyno slip for a Forced induction (supercahrged) SC2. LOTs of mods to it includeding bored out 2.0 and countless other things. Guy spent 20k on that saturn. It was killing hondas and integras mitsus and every other rice burner you could think of.

although a honda integra does exist (i owned an 85 when i was stationed in japan, many moons ago), it seems like your buddy is mostly full of crap. with the keys to a large bank, the sky's the limit on horsepower, but it's gonna be a tough road for a grunt living in the barracks (been there).

if you're looking for the hp bragging rights, i don't think a saturn (or honda, for that matter) is the car for you. i had an old skylark once that put a little over 500hp to the wheels, but popping wheelies gets old after awhile. (ok, maybe not. i miss that car)

if you're looking for a car that can hold its own on a track or autocross course, you've got a decent starting point. you may never win a national championship with it, but you'll do alright. hp isn't quite as important as it is in straight-line racing.

sounds like both of you are proud of your cars. that's good. i guess that makes it ok to embellish a little...

Find out if it was originally an RSX baseline or Type S. My friend has a Type S and I'm pretty sure I could take him in the 1/8, I've driven his car and it just feels heavy. It's fast, doesn't weight much more than our cars, but feels cumbersome. After it gets going, though, it's fast. 1/4 he would probably beat me. Except I think I'm a better driver, but equal drivers I'm pretty sure he would beat me. Anything with turns though, and I would kill his car.

If it's the baseline RSX, it's not many more hp than our cars. The type S is about 200. The baseline is also heavier than the type S. Look RSX up on Wikipedia, you should be able to learn enough about them to trash him because you know more about his car than he does.

Finally, take it to the strip. Do an 1/8 mile run, 1/4 mile run, and something with some turns. You may not be able to win all races, but even one win and he can't talk crap about a car that beat him.

Ya, but I wonder how much torque. They might have sacrificed a lot of torque for the high hp. Which is fine for racing, but it probably isn't a daily driver.

I can assure you an engine making 700ish hp have plenty of torque. The question you should ask is at what rev does that engine make power or torque. I'm willing to bet it doesn't make any more power than stock 'til 4000rpm or later.
