Default Help with aftermarket stereo not working

I have a '95 SL2 and last week my Kenwood stereo stopped working. I also noticed that my dome light is acting funny by not going on sometimes when the door's are open (the switch is set to door), or if I need the light at night to look for something, I have to tap the light for it to go on.
Could the two be related? I tried putting in another Kenwood stereo that I have at home and it didn't work either. The fuses on the stereos are good, the wiring is good. I don't know what's wrong. Could another possibility be a broken speaker connection in the trunk? I drive the street to get to work and the pavements quite "ratty" due to the heavy trucks and busses that go the directions I travel.
Any advice would be most appreciated.

Do you hear a chime when your key is in the ignition and the door is open?

Check your 5amp chime fuse to see if its good.If the fuse is blown, you wont have display on your stereo(I know cause I have cranked my Alpine and it blows the chime fuse )

...
Want more gun control? Then use both hands.

Thats exactly what happened to mine. Did you replace it with a 10 or just not crank your music anymore?

I removed the Alpine CDA-9805(50Wx4) and installed a Pioneer DEH-1300(45Wx4).The Alpine came with the car when I bought it but with no owners manual it was a PITA to figure out some of the options it had and it didnt sound that good. The Pioneer I have had in other cars Ive owned so it was easier to use.
