Happy 310,000 Miles

Just hit 310,000 miles on my 94 SC1 on the way into work this morning.

Original Engine/Auto Trans.

Luke; I know you still have me beat by a long shot.
Delivery Man: have you caught up to me yet or close?

Someday...just someday; we'll all be equal in mileage!

, not only routine maintenance, but PROPER maintenance. Anyways, good job, and keep them miles rolling!!!! Maybe you should make some long distance trips and that'll help out. I've put close to 22,000 miles on my 2000 SL2 already and I haven't even had it for a year yet. I do alot of driving out of town, even within state....most of my good friends don't stay in the same city as me, so that adds miles too.

I've always heard that with proper maintenance a S-series will last as long as you want to drive it. I drove my SC 14 years 184k miles and the engine and transmission was still in great condition.

"PROPER maintainance" includes what other than 'Oil changes and ofcourse topping up the oil'?

No; nothing real special; just routine maintenance....

I'm 85% Highway and 15% city driving.

No repairs for 2007 as of yet.

The only repair in 2006 was replacing the original waterpump at 290,000 miles.

Following is what has been repaired and cost wise since 2004

2004-New Alternator, $240 (replaced original)
2005-New Radiator, $85 (replaced original)
2006-New Waterpump, $79 (replaced original)

Everything else has been routine: oil changes, brake pads/rotors; nothing out of the ordinary.

If anyone is interested in seeing some pictures; there are some in my gallery as well as the ongoing rebuild of my 91 SC.

Thumbs Up Re: 310,000 Miles

Congrats on having a car with high mileage that is still running great. My wife & I bought a 1995 Saturn SL1 with 246,046 kilometers on it. I just passed 256,100 last week. In 9 months that we have owned the car I have put 10,000 kilometers on it. The only things that had to be fixed were the EGR valve & the coil packs & the water pump & battery. Saturns are like tanks, they can keep going through anything.

Sexy is a prime example of that. He was barely maintained, mostly neglected. And not only that, he was a former rental (abused as a child, they say). Because of all that he has a different engine, and a few problems, but he's like "I don't give a WHAT!", and keeps on going like there's no tomorrow. Funny thing is he's never left me stranded, when he did choose not to start (loose battery cables), it was in the driveway...that was so sweet of him, LOL. Everytime he's had a problem, even a couple that made him run like crap, he still got me home safely....and that's why I friggin love this car....it seems to have more of a conscience than most people.

He did leave me stranded once, but I don't blame him, it was driver error, I left the darn e-brake on and overheated my brakes, but when I came back, despite doing that, he still drove fine.

Honestly, being that his engine was replaced before I got him, I have no clue about the engine. But the odometer reads 132,XXX. I suspect the engine doesn't have much less.
