Unless the evaporator has a fast leak, it can be the most challenging component to check. The evaporator can be checked with an electronic leak detector at the evaporator drain tube (careful not to stick the probe in water). Another clever idea is to use a fiberoptic borescope to snake through the evaporator drain tube (most are water resistant). With the fiberoptic borescope light turned on, you may actually see dye on the evaporator fins.

Year, model, actual trouble code number????

Also apparently Evap Emision System or AC evaporator core problem--to clarify it for sure.

Is it mean if I started to chuckle? Maybe, because you did try to help.

I think the poster is referring to EVAP system leaks (Emissions Vapor Recovery)

More than likely, it is probably a bad seal on your gas cap, if not, it could be a number of things. Post year/model/ code number/ recent repairs, if any for more help.

Most common source of this code is that the gas cap has not been tightened down enough. From there as Bigdaddy94sc2 said a bad gas cap. Believe it or not a bad PCM temps sensor or even a bad thermostat.

Subject: SES Lamp On with DTC P0442 EVAP System Small Leak Detected Set (Diagnose Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System, Repair as Necessary) #05-06-04-049 - (08/17/2005)

Models: 2000 Saturn S-Series Vehicles

with 1.9L Engine (VINs 7, 8 - RPOs LL0, L24)

Condition
Some customers may comment that the Service Engine Soon (SES) lamp is illuminated.

Upon further investigation, technicians may find diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0442 "EVAP Small Leak Detected" set.

Cause
One of several EVAP system component issues may cause a DTC P0442 to set in the PCM and illuminate the SES light.

Correction
Refer to DTC P0442 diagnostic procedures in the appropriate 2000 Saturn S-Series Service Manual or SI to diagnose and repair the vehicle as necessary. If there is no concern found, follow the diagnostic steps listed in the "Service Procedure" section of this bulletin and repair as necessary.

Service Procedure
Perform the following inspections and repair, if necessary:

Inspect both ends of all EVAP circuits for damaged and/or spread terminal pins.
Inspect the coolant temperature sensor connector for corroded, damaged, and/or spread pins.
Remove the coolant temperature sensor and inspect the temperature-sensing probe to determine if it is composite (plastic). If so, replace the coolant temperature sensor with a new sensor, which will contain an all-brass temperature-sensing probe. Replace the thermostat.

now heres the thing ive already bought a new gas gap but i had other codes that went away when i did this also my car vibrates pretty bad when at a stop now is this evident that there may also be a vacum leak???? or may other problems exist i changed two of the motor mounts the dog bone on the driver side and the top moter mount on the pass side because i thought that it might also be causing the vibrations

Did you do the above??? That can certainly cause your problems. Do that and if you still have a problem, I'd say the cannister purge solenoid is next.

A vacuum leak will normally cause a high idle rather than a vibration.

It may be that the engine is vibrating from a rough idle or an engine miss. Check plugs, wires and coils. As well as the intake manifold to head gasket for a vacuum leak.

Sounds like Intake Mani gasket to me! Use some carb cleaner and spray along the back of the engine, where the intake meets the head, near the passenger side, near cyl #1, and see if the idle changes. If it does, you have an intake gasket leaking vacuum.....
