Default Zen and the art of fuel economy:

Ever since I purchased my new XR, I have been getting used to thinking about fuel economy. Having a real time display can alter your perspective a bit .

I have finally adapted my driving techniques to get the best balance (for me) of fuel economy and driving comfort. Maximizing economy requires very gentle performance parameters. It has caused me to modify my driving habits a great deal - for the better. I was traditionally a fairly aggressive driver, preferring the left lane, moving faster than those in the right lanes, but always pulling over to allow vehicles to pass. (there is always someone faster than you at some point )

The new fuel economy minded me, while trying to discover maximum mileage, has accidentally discovered a much more relaxed and calm driving experience as well. It still requires a very strategic awareness of the road, but the benefits are not only good fuel economy, but greater serenity.

At any rate, on a trip this weekend, 76 miles each way, I averaged 28.5 mpg going, and 32.0 returning! I suspect this has to do with a difference in altitude between the two locations. The return trip being slightly more down-hill perhaps. This difference in mileage is consistent with the last two trips, so it is not a one-time experience.

I just thought I would share my minor discovery. A little real time feedback can have surprising results for those so inclined.

Best regards,
Jonathan-1

Same situation here. Since I installed the Scan Guage in my VUE it try to maximize the mileage. It's amazing how much your average drops when stopped in traffic.

Yup, seductive isn't it? Even when I drove like I wanted to "win the race" I still got mileage in the twenties. Of course, I will only use those powers for Good now, not evil.

Yessir! I find that the real problem is accelerating from each stoplight. If you drive Granny style, you can mitigate that to some extent. Those mileage benefits, however, might be negated by the constant blaring of horns from behind....

I know the feeling. Having twice the power of my old SC2 is really addicting. The car is ready and rearing to go. Far from me to try to tame it.
