Default Wiring

Ok, i detached my stock 93 Saturn sl1's radio, cassete player and put in a new one, i snipped the old wires off the plastic connector that went into the back of the old radio and my dash lighs and the beep thing stoped working. For the new radio/cd palyer i have all the speakers hooked up, i need to know what color the old memory wire was, the old ground wire, and the old power wire were. After i hooked the speakers up, i have a tanish brown wire, a brown wire, a yellow wire, and an orngish wire left from the old radio, and a red(power), yellow(memory), and black(ground) from the new one. i had it once but droped the wires, i tried for 2 hours but couldnt get it right again. So basicaly wat would realy help would be, what wires do i splice to what other wires. Oh yea when i did have it touched were it worked, my memory didnt work and whenever i shut off my headlights or park lights, the power to the new radio got cut off...

The easiest way to do it would be to buy the wiring harness which hooks up to the stock Plug thing, and the colors are color coded to the same as most aftermarket stereo's. That's what i did, not to mention when you want to put another radio in you just unplug it... if you are unwilling to do that.

Wow, just wow.

This is why places offer free installation. Im all for doing stuff myself, I do it all the time. They make wiring harness adaptors so bad things like you described dont happen. You should never, ever, ever cut the factory harness off. For a few bucks you can buy a harness that allows you to connect an aftermarket stereo without any cutting, splicing, crimping or thinking. Click, click, plug in the antenna, mount the radio, DONE..

BTW, today my brother gave his girlfriend a new Pioneer headunit for Christmas for her SC1. I had the old Blaupunkt out and the new Pioneer wired up, installed and working in under two minutes.

Must have not been a third gen, took me a while to get my interior apart before i did mine. The second and third time i went in there was better but still takes me like 20 minutes to just get in there. jealous.

it seems that Saturn made it harder to remove the radio every time the interior was updated. my 92 SC was easy to pull out, the 96 SC2 was a bit more involved with the switches on top of the pod, then I looked in the service manuals for my 02 SC2 and decided that I'm leaving it alone it's got the CD and Cassette combo anyway. maybe I'll do the speakers. Those got harder too. the 92 SC rear deck grilles were removable. the 96 SC2 door grilles removed but you had to remove the entire package tray cover for the 96 SC2 and the 02 SC2 doesn't even have grilles on the rear deck so you don't even know if speakers are back there unless you look in the trunk.

This should show you every wire in the connector. Next time, just spend the $7 on a harness. They can be bought in walmart pretty cheap, and i hope you know you need an antenna adapter as well.

Are you removing a factory radio and installing an aftermarket or removing an aftermarket and installing another aftermarket radio?
