On the Malibu thread that Jerry posted yesterday, there was a link to the new vehicle that Chebbie will be producing there. They are getting a version of the Outlook (suprise...<not>) There was also a snippit on this being built there but not much else.

Seems just like the 80's! Every division gets a version of the same vehicle to sell.

Wow, what an absolutely bogus article. I'm sure GM is going to move the Outlook, Acadia, and Enclave all to Spring Hill. Seeing as GM has dumped a lot of money into the Lansing, MI plant that currently builds them.

Yeah that didn't make sense to me either. Personally, I see no future for SH (but, what do I know? ). Nothing is making any sense.

With the amount of product they'll sell, both plants will be needed. I remember when the Ford Taurus was in full swing they were built at 2 plants. Obviously GM is expecting huge demand for the Lambdas, especially the Chevy version.

The Chevy version will sell over 300K per year. That's what SH is for.

My bet is it also gives them the option of building a minivan on Lansing alongside the current Lambdas. While it was reported that SH would not get a minivan, it was erroneously reported that the minvan project is dead.

I hope the Chevy version of the Outlook looks different, and don't like so much product overlap, but I have to admit that given the high price of the Outlook, (I know, I know its "competitively priced") a Chevy version sounds pretty good.

Right, GM still doesn't know how the family car crowd will take to the lack of sliding doors. I figure the largest amount of Lambda customers will be former Trailblazer/Yukon owners plus a good amount of Explorer/ Highlander/Pilot/Durango/Grand Cherokee owners.
I'm afraid that making the Chevy version have lower cost might remove a lot of the things that are attracting people to the Lambdas. Would you want an OHV engine and a 4 speed auto? How about a grey plastic interior?

I can tell you that the rear doors were the things I disliked the most about my Pacifica. While it was a wonderful vehicle for its quality and appointments, having a small child and those rear doors never worked well in parking lots or in the garage. The rear sliders were a big attractor for me with the Mazda5 although I would up buying the CRV-SE, rear doors and all.

If there wasn't any, I guess GM wouldn't have recently invested over $200 million.

Kinda sucks that Spring Hill won't just be building Saturns anymore....I thought that made Saturn kinda special that they had their own manufacturing plant.
