Problem with engine turning on then turning off, everything is on radio, lights, air

I have a 2003 saturn ion that i have had for almost 2 years it has 54,500 miles on it. I have never had any problems with it before. The other day i smelled gasoline smell when i got into my car late at night after work, it kinda worried me but i thought nothing of it. 2 weeks later i ran some errands with my boyfriend we went to 3 stops keeping the car running (me staying in it) while he ran inside to do what he had to do, we drove 15 miles to my postoffice where we finally turned the car off so we could both go in. We came back to the car and my car's engine would not start everything would be on like air raido lights, ect but the engine would not run. We let it sit 2 mins tried it again engine stared then turned right off. We let it sit 5 more mins tried again and the car started. we drove back home and later that night i tired starting it again and it did. I have not tried it again today. The service vehicle words apperaed in the odometer, when my car would not come on. I so scared to drive it now =( any idea what could be going on? thanks

Did the car turn over?

If it did not turn over it sounds like the same thing I had going on and turned out to be a faulty ignition switch. There are other threads with sort of the same thing going on as well.

Ok this is kinda crazy, but Im sitting at the saturn dealership right now getting my ignition switched replaced and i have to pay for it! Is there anyway to get this covered? Cuz my car has been doing this for months......Maybe a recall or a bulletin?? My factory warrenty is up, but i have an extended one......

It is a bulletin, not a recall.

If you have an extended warranty, it should be covered, unless it is a really cheap/ shotty warranty....

the extended warranty I was sold with my ION 2 does not cover ignition cylinders and a few other oddball things...well what do you know, my key got stuck in the ignition one night and I couldn't turn the car off...long story short, they had to replace the ignition cylinder cap or something like that and it was not covered under my extended warranty. Meh, 90 bucks later and a couple hours and it was fixed and I haven't had the problem again so far...

Your Saturn ION is a 2005. How many miles? Did the 36k mile marker pass. This type of repair should be covered under the GM factory warranty. Unless of course they deemed it to be because of maintenance.

Is your extended warranty on your Saturn a GMPP provided by GM?
