Default Rear window defogger control "switch"

My Saturn, 1997 SC2, has a problem with its rear window defogger. The defogger control "switch" is broken. I can hardly find on Internet an auto parts retailer that has a stock of defogger switches. Does anyone know where I can obtain this?

Are you sure its the switch? Power for the switch is routed through the chime module. A faulty one can cause similar problems.

Do you have ABS or fog lights? If not, the switch pod with just the defog switch seems to be pretty ubiquitous on eBay. Any gen-2 will fit.

Sure it's the switch? The button sends a signal to the body control module that latches a relay that runs the defogger. Am confident if you got it apart and had a wiring diagram, you could jumper a wire to test this. Of course then you wouldn't have the light to indicate... so do it when it's frosty out.

If you have low system voltage like from alternator issues, it won't let the defog come on.

Hm, now that you mention it elje, doesn't the defogger also depend on the CHIME module?

Good morning, everyone. Thanks for your attention to my Saturn's problem.

Yes. The control switch does not work, nor does the indicator light glow. Yesterday, I sent my car to a local service shop, and a mechanic told me to replace the switch. He said it would take a month to obtain a new switch because he has to order from an auto parts shop, and then the shop has to import one from America…. so I was searching by myself on Internet.

Now I realize that my car has different specifications from those sold in the USA. Mine has a driver's seat on the right. The defogger switch is located below the turn signal lever which is also placed on the right side of the steering. This is a SINGLE switch to control the rear window defogger, not a three switches-on-one panel shown on Ebay.

Perhaps this special switch should be purchased from the company who produced my Saturn in the USA, I wonder?

Yes, you must have that special switch imported. Seeing that you are in Japan, its best to get the right one. Have the body shop order you one and see where it goes from there.

I'd also love to see pictures of your car being that its a foreign model. And.... its night time here in the USA (11:15 P.M. on the east coast)

EDIT: I see they're in your gallery! Silly me..

From left to right, there are "TRAC (traction control system)", "parking light" and "fog lump" buttons.

So on your headlamp switch (identical to turn signal stalk, just on other side of steering column) is it just OFF and ON for headlights? I'd like to see a picture of this! lol.

What do the switches above the radio control? Have any pics on the inside of the car taken from the drivers side?

The lever has the flash-to-pass feature.

Pictures are now on my photo gallery. I hope this helps.

Man, RHD Saturns freaking rule!

I also noticed the rear defog button is on the "cluster surround" trim. never seen that before. And also there is no "hazard" light switch on top of the steering shroud. I'm also wondering if the headlights/taillights are glass?

Thats why I had to ask about the buttons above the radio.

On the American version the rear defrost is the middle button
On the Japanesse version the hazards is the middle button

I like the Japanesse set-up for the rear defroster switch better

I myself write in English. I realize my English composition is quite different from yours. I am an advocator for The Chicago Manual of Style (this should be italisized ).

I've decided to consult on this matter with the local Nissan service shop, albeit with some more expense. Thanks for your kind advice yesterday, Andy.
