I know it is recommended here to buy the pre-bled master/slave cylinder from Saturn but has anyone bought one from an autoparts store? If so, what was your experience? I was wondering because it's about half the price.

I went and looked at just the slave cylinder at Autozone, but there was no way to bleed it so I did not see how I could use it. I do not know why Saturn designed a hydraulic clutch system that cannot be bled. It does not make any sense to me. I wish some of these seemingly stupid engineers would give us reasons for some of the bonehead decisions they make. Where does GM get some of these designers?

i havent had any experience with autoparts stores clutch cylinders but a good way to gauge how well it will work is look at the manufacturer who makes it and see what else they make and if its autozone or whatever make sure you dont just look on the box see what the part says on it. for example the autozone/duralast clutch is actullay made by valeo.

I bought one from o'really auto - one reason was the lifetime warranty - if it quits, I just go ask for another one. It seems to work just fine, but it's only been on there for a month or so - but my teenage son is the one driving it, so it must be able to tolerate some stress.

You can buy the clutch hydraulics complete at Autozone. They have to order them but, they can get them. They used to be more expensive than OEM but, they've come down in price. I can't say how long they'll last.
... There is nothing more frightening than ignorance in action.

I bought one at Autozone for $81.99. They had to order it and had it in the next day. I had it installed in about 30 minutes. One of the easiest things that I have done. I will let everyone know how it holds up but it looks identical to the OEM unit.
