I did a transmission flush and fill a year ago and I wanted to put something in that would with stand heat. I went with Royal Purple Synthetic Synchromax Manual transmission fluid.
Bought it at Jegs for $8.99/quart

I bought 1 gallon of Pennzoil Dexron III / Mercon and used a Purolator filter. Take my advise, go to the saturn dealership/eBay and get the actual Saturn transmission filter. Or... if you want, go to a Chevy dealer and get the filter from a 2006 Silverado 2500 Duramax with Allison tranny. They use the same filter, but the internals of the chevy one are stronger for the diesel engine.

Is the Dexron III supposed to last 100K? Thanks for the filter advise. Do you know what is recommended by saturn?

That's expensive, but I guess you only change once in a while.

My philosophy is whenever I'm putting something into my car, whether it's a repair, maintenance or modification. I always try to it with the best parts. Since I'm doing all the work myself I'm already saving money on the ridiculous labor costs these days. ,

+1

and you're thinking of Dexcool, not Dexron. Dexcool is the antifreeze/coolant that is found in GM cars that lasts 100k miles. Dexron is the transmission fluid, and should be changed every 30k or 3 years on auto's, and do it every once in a while with the manuals.

I agree! Mobil 1 has one been on the market for longer than almost everyone else, has great line of synthetic products (oil, grease, etc.) - but typically isn't the cheapest. Just priced their ATF at $8.39/qt. - which seems like it's gone up since the last time I bought some.
