I am patiently awaiting my new red Vue sport package and trying to decide on add ons. I want to go with the rear deflector, lower door side panels, and roof bars. I have some concerns with the stick on type deflectors and panels. Has anyone experienced any problems with them? Particularly affecting the paint if they have to be removed due to breakage, etc.
I have also seen the Scotch-Cal treatment on the hood of a Vue. It would be a nice alternative to the hood deflector that I am unsure if I like. Has anyone had experience with the Scotch-Cal and any problems that might exist with it in later years? Also any pros or cons on the seat covers? I'm not too impressed with the quality of the seat material in the 4 cyl. Sure wish there was an option to upgrade to the V-6 material. Bummed about the lack of fog light option for the 4 cyl also. Sounds like some folks have found a way to get them, but pretty pricey. A salesman at my dealership was looking into acquiring the lenses and putting aftermarket lights behind them. I'll follow up if anything comes of it. Also would have liked to swap for the V-6 wheels. I recently found this site and enjoy the forums and good exchange of info. I wish I would have known about it a few weeks ago when my 96 SL went down with a cracked cylinder head. Some consolation may have helped! Since there's not an alternative way to attach these add-ons you'll have to go with the peel and stick method. The emblems on your Vue are stuck on with pretty much the same adhesive. I have the V6 model and I removed all the lettering (VUE AWD V6) from the rear hatch. They peeled off relatively easy and left no marks, the clearcoat didn't lift nor had the adhesive etched into the paint.
I'm sure if I'd removed these emblems a year or so down the road it might be noticable as the paint would have faded a touch, and there might be an impression etched into paint. This will probably happen underneath the items you're thinking of adding, however as long as you would be replacing the item if it somehow got broken, go for it. You'll appreciate the rear deflector in particular.

My VUE finally arrived and I love it! After discussions with the dealer about the Scotch Cal hood treatment, I opted for the front bug deflector instead. Apparently the Scotch Cal is difficult to get on right and is not removable without paint damage. It appeared to show swirl type scratch marks also.
I added the front and rear deflectors and mud guards myself with no trouble. My next attempt will be the lower door panel trim. Has anyone tackled that job themselves? According to the dealer, you have a one-shot attempt to get it right. They tried to convince me by saying that the VUE in the showroom was done by the techs, and even they were a little off. I'm thinking, hmmm........ I should pay them to make the same mistake that I could? Of course they would have to stand behind it. I don't have the pieces yet so will see how easy they are to line up before I give it a try. I'll post a pic when I'm done.

What is the real benefit to the front defelector? I was unable to convince my wife that we should get it on our Sprt Pkg VUE that we picked up April 18th Thanks for any help.

It is listed as a bug deflector and the primary reason I've had it on other vehicles is to help keep the windshield clean. This one is very low profile, so not sure how well that feature will work, but I got it to prevent rock dings on the leading edge of the hood. My 96 SL is living proof that these can add up over the years without some protection. BTW the lower door panels went on fine and really finish it off.
