Default XR owners, how smooth is your idle

Maybe I set my standards too high, but how many for your Aura owners find that your engine "stumbles" (for lack of a better word) while stopped at a light?

Every now and then, I can "feel" my engine. When driving, it is smooth, but stopped, after like 20 seconds, I feel a slight stumble and then it idles smooths and then it will flip another quick stumble. It really is hard to explain, it is not like it has a high-lift aftermarket cam lopey, but I feel it every once in a while.

Yep, my XR does the exact same thing. Not sure what causes it. I'm also in the same boat as I'm not sure if other cars I've owned do that as well or not. I'll have to let my dad's '04 Sentra idle and see if I feel the same thing.

I havent noticed, but I usually have my music up so I cant hear the engine. I will listen to see if mine does it. I had noticed a few times it seemed to "stumble" while driving. It hasnt done it in a while though.

I expect that from my S-series, it idles almost like the XR, but it has 212,000 on it. I just want to make sure it wasn't something wrong with the motor on my XR. I got a little too caught up in the tapshift and hit the rev-limiter already.

It's not something you'll hear, the car just sort of "jumps" very slightly when idling. You'll only feel it. However if you get out of the car and listen to the engine while it's idling you might hear something, but whatever it is, is too subtle and thus too faint to hear from the inside.

Yes I noticed the exact same thing today when I was at a stop light for an extended period of time. Seems to only do this on the 3.6 the 3.5 does not do this.

OK, so it is not me. I look at the tach needle and it doesn't Blip when it happens, so I have no idea what it is. I guess it is normal.

I noticed the idle on the XR is not as smooth as I would have expected and I commented on this in my review "Good Cars, Not World Beaters"

Hmmm....I didn't take that as to meaning the idle stumble; I took that as meaning sound.

My wording was not adequately precise. I found the 3.6 engine to be silky smooth when driving, but not at idle.

I do NOT recall an intermittent stumble on an otherwise silent idle (I use the word "silent" to refer to lack of both noise and vibration). Rather, I definitely knew the engine was idling. On some cars, you don't even know the engine is on when it is idling.

I've had the TSB reprogram done Friday and I haven't noticed one way or the other about the idle since. I felt exactly the same thing as everyone mentions, but I'm not sure it's there now. I'll take the car out in a while and get it completely warm and report back before the end of the day.

I took the car out a while ago and completely forgot to check so I think the problem is gone. Now, I get to go out again now and focus this time.

I thought your were talking about engine idle. The doc# you gave me is for the transmission. (This bulletin provides a service procedure to reprogram the transmission control module (TCM) on certain 2007 Saturn Aura vehicles equipped with a 6T70 automatic transmission. The new calibrations provide improved shift characteristics).

Actually, he noted that when he had the tranny reprogrammed it seems to have cleared up the idle at the same time. Maybe the two are related

Yes, it was for the tranny. However coincidental it might be, my idle problems are gone. I don't know if the 'fix' occurred at exactly the same time, but I had forgotten about it until someone brought it up here. The car has only been back to the dealer for the tranny TSB.

Yup, I noticed the same stumble when I started the car in the showroom. My pontiac did the same thing so I wasn't surprised. I haven't noticed it now that I have the car outside.

When I called OnStar to activate my Verizon phone number the rep told me that Verizon wasn't supported on Acura models. My response was good because my car is a Saturn.
