Default What do these have in common?

I still have that electrical problem with my car. I momentarily lose all power as far as I can tell except the firing to the engine I think because there is no missfire. What happens is I'll be driving along and all of a sudden my radio resets the time and memory, the tach and speedometer drop, then the door chimes go off and the radio restarts and loses its time. The strange thing is I don't even notice a thing from the engine no miss everything seems fine. Someone said it could be the ignition switch but the raio memory doesn't travel through this? What else electrically could these all share that wouldn't misfire the engine? The battery? But if the batt was shorting internally wouldn't the engine misfire? Do all these share a common ground? If so where is it hiding? Both batt connections are tight along with the connection to the junction box. If anyone has any ideas they would be appreciated. Thanks!

pretty much just a battery cable that'll do this. Remove to inspect, don't just look at 'em.

When the engine is running, the accessories run off the alternator, so a bad positive battery cable won't do what you describe. I would look at grounds in the passenger compartment, and the big green 30A fusible links under the hood.

madpogue's probably got it, but run by a parts store and have your battery and charging system checked. They'll do it for free at Autozone or Advance.

I second the grounds - remove the cables from the battery, clean them. Clean the two major grounds going to the tranny/block. Clean the grounds going to the frame next to the fuse box.

Are all the grounds under the hood or are any inside the vehicle. I cleaned most of the grounds under the hood when I bought the car 7 months ago. Except the one on the block, it would almost take a lose connection to cause this wouldn't it? I'll check the car further over the weekend.

I just had the same thing with occasional "no start" problems. The instrument fuse block melted on the center console. $219 + labor

something similar happened to my 92 SC once. it was the battery cable. the end of the negative cable pulled loose from the ground on the transaxle case and it would cut off and on when the engine rocked back and forth.
