Question Transmission Fluid - 2001 Sc2

Another quick question about my fluids Just wondering how much Mobile1 Synthetic tranny fluid I should use in my 01Sc2. I read a how to a month or so back and it suggested 6+ bottles. But the dipstick says 2.5 Any help appreciated

Just make sure you let it drain COMPLETELY. It'll keep dripping for what seems like forever, but just let it go until it drips no longer. You are changing the filter too, correct? A refill should take 6-7 bottles depending on how much you let drain out. Just match the volume of fluid in the drain pan.

Automatics take 4.5 quarts, manuals take 2.5.

With considerable deference to Saturn Tech, and inspite of the figure quoted in my FASM being 4.2 quarts, after leaving my car overnight to drain, it was necessary for me to add almost 6 quarts. Granted the max refill on an overhauled unit is 7.2, I did find it surprising to have to add just short of 6 quarts. (((>Of course, I use a dealer/OEM transmission filter <)))

In the future, I'll always be, atleast, prepared for that much.

It's not gonna slip; even though it's called "transmission fluid", it really only acts as a bath oil. There's no pump, like the engine oil has, and no valve body, like an automatic tranny. I'm a little surprised that, at that volume, it didn't just overflow the filler hole. In any event, it'd be wise to drain it down to the specified level.

I changed my fluid recently and to my surprise it took 5.5 quarts. I checked it according to the specific prodedure from Alldata, warming the engine to operating temp and checking many times. In the past I think my problem was not warming the engine enough when checking the fluid.

Plain old dextron 3 is fine. I used Mobil One last change.
