Default Intermittent Service Engine Soon Light..

Hello,

I have an annoying problem with my 98 SL2. Every now and then the "Service Engine Soon" light just decides to turn on (and stay on!) whenever I start the vehicle. I drive close to 1,500km per week with this car and the nearest Saturn dealer is ~ 3 hours away so having it checked is currently not an option.

Should I be concerned about this or just continue on with my travels?

The car currently has 148,500kms (about 85k miles) as I type.

Thanks,
Bruno

Just go to a parts store and they should read the codes for free. if not, go to walmart or ebay or something and pick up a OBDII scanner.

The proper way to fix a S-Series automatic is to replace it with a 5spd O:)

That's what I'm thinking of doing. These scanners are fairly cheap nowadays.

My gut instinct (and reading through the forums) tells me it could very well be a combination of the ECTS/PCV Valve (I knew I should have put at least an AC-Delco PCV earlier!)

Anyway, this thing's due for a tune-up in the near future!

Cheers,
Bruno

You kidding??? If you've read this forum, you should have replaced that ECTS as preventive maintenance. The PCV valve might go. The ECTS will go.

There is nothing more frightening than ignorance in action.
